My first real race with consistent training after an 8 year layoff was the F3 Lake Half in Chicago. It was bitter cold with a wind coming off the lake that ripped right through you. Being the "Swamp Creature" that I am now (I legit LOL'd when I read that), I didn't have any winter running gear and toughed it out in my singlet and shorts. Around the 3 mile mark, another bigger runner - much bigger than me - saddled up beside me and said, "It's good to see us Clydedales sticking together." I chuckled and we ran with each other for the next 9 miles.
