Another week with three modest efforts, a pattern I've maintained since the end of June when I ventured back to "training" after about an 8-month layoff. The TT was disappointing -- I was confident of 6:28 or so, but heading into the wind for that second quarter-mile killed me.

LancRunner: I found this astounding: "I ended up in my feet for the longest I’ve ever been in a run (2hr 7min)."
Slow Miles: Maybe slow compared to your peers, but a lot of us would love to be as fast. I missed your backstory, but assume you're in college? Do you train/race with a team, or self-coached?
going faster miles an hour: I would love to run trails, but rarely willing to drive somewhere just for a run. How close to home are these trails?
outsiderunner: I know this has been fodder for years now, but still incredible to me. Age 51, big mileage, NO EASY RUNS!
73 MILES -- 7:36, 7:00, 6:51, 6:41, 6:33, 6:34, 6:30, 6:35, 6:25, 6:18, 6:20, 7:25, 6:58, 6:49, 6:42, 6:35, 6:31, 6:25, 6:32, 6:22, 6:18, 6:10, 7:29, 6:50, 6:37, 6:33, 6:30, 6:25, 6:28, 6:37, 6:33, 6:29, 6:34, 6:39, 6:30, 6:32, 6:33, 6:26, 6:20, 7:41, 7:09, 6:54, 6:46, 6:39, 6:38, 6:30, 6:23, 6:22, 6:13, 6:18, 6:19, 7:28, 7:22, 7:02, 6:57, 6:48, 6:52, 6:51, 6:53, 6:45, 6:36, 6:36, 6:31, 6:24, 6:30, 6:24
darkwave: This is so true: " I'm seeing solid progress each week (which makes sense - it's easier to rebuild past fitness than to rise to a new level)." Still satisfying, though, and as we age, about the best we can do (in absolute terms, anyway).
runrincerepeat: "Rapid ramp in miles fall of 2018 (and let myself get to thin at 147) stress fracture in leg. Rapid rapid ramp to peak of 107 in fall of 2019. 3 stress fractures." Ouch. The irony, and disappointment, is that all the hard work and enthusiasm is what destroys our dreams. I saw my son go through the same cycle in high school -- Four years of investing heavily in super-hard training, then be injured for every racing season (stress fractures). It was heartbreaking.
BHViking: "Back to back 100+ mile weeks." Congrats on the mileave PR! At age 43, pretty amazing, not just because of your age, but all the competing commitments I assume you have in life. It astounds me whenever I see stats like this, and try to figure the math. From my experience -- "60 hours working, 12 hours commuting, 30 hours home repair/restoration, 10 hours lawn and landscaping, 14 hours basic chores, 50 hours sleeping, ?? hours equipment maintenance, ?? hours watercolor/oil painting, ?? hours guitar/piano practice, ?? hours furniture-making, ?? hours just hanging with the kids ..." Running/training? Hoo boy.
Coach Jeff: "Perceived effort was lower than the first session 2 weeks ago while at the same time my HR got higher than in that last session... in other words, I was actually doing work in that VO2max zone. I hit my targets (based on my 2019 marathon PR) easily." Nice! Take care of your heal.
