After years of live events, videos, reading, etc. I think I realize why running does not get the same respect as other sports...
The reality is that...we want a better time without respect nor deference to those who paved the way.
In Golf, Eldrick "Tiger" Woods still respects Jack and Greg before him.
In hockey, the names Wayne, Gordie and Bobby are common...they represent tje sport.
MLB has Carew, Yazstremski, McGwire, Bonds, Sosa, Mantle, Maris, Aaron, Ripken, Jr., Etc....mad respect.
Also, the Unit, Rocket, Doc, etc.
(Disclaimer: i am aware of some of the legal tribulations of some I mentioned)
The NFL has many...
But runners...
While i love you and the sport, you hurt yourself...why?
before Eliud Kipchoge went 1'59'40, many of you questioned his equipment, his training, his ability and his heart.
When he broke 2, you FINALLY got on board.
We need to learn how to respect Zatopek AND Viren AND Prefontaine AND Shorter AND Mutwol AND Bile AND Bikila AND Centrowitz AND Kipchoge AND Rono AND Cheptagai....
Before we present our gift ? as an elite professional sport.
Then maybe we'll get the respect you want.
