Funny, looks like the top 2 not white, despite a VERY sizable majority of professional players being white. Obviously, race is the issue.

She's had an audience of millions of people. She's had endorsements. She's won championships.
I'm sorry, but I don't like how she's playing the victim.
Leftists do this a lot.
She's a doper that hasn't been caught.
Some of her on court meltdowns have been laughably embarrassing.
Pathetic. From the tennis player who rarely gives credit to her opponent
Whilst I completely disagree that she has been underpaid (and she's lucky that there isn't all that much interest in tennis doping stories so her reputation remains intact) it is fair to say that Sharapova has been massively overpaid in endorsements in comparison to her performance levels. I imagine Kournikova was far better compensated than many above her in the rankings too.

David Beckham has been massively overpaid in that case too.
Popularity/Looks > Ability with sponsors and it's obvious from a business perspective why.
A bunch of white guys all getting their underwear in knots about how much more money than them a black woman makes. Pretty sad, but not surprising on here at all.
Serena and her sister have spent their entire adults lives excelling at the highest level of one of the most popular sports in the world. Their longevity is exceptional even in a sport where players can have long careers; The same cannot be said of the other women on that list. It is mind boggling that Serena has been a consistent Grand Slam semi-finalist since the mid 1990s. A man who achieved at that level in a sport watched by so many would absolutely be compensated well beyond what she has.
If you want to get upset about something, get upset about the mostly-anonymous paper pushing Wall Street crowd who create little of actual value for the society and get paid handsomely to do it. Or get upset about the billionaires who have been making millions by the day as large portions of the country wrestle with unemployment and lack of access to affordable healthcare. Or maybe you could get upset about your POTUS who pays less taxes than the average teacher, bus driver or factory worker does in an average year, all the while diverting taxpayers $$ to his private businesses at every possible opportunity.
But then it's part of the fabric of this country for legions of white men to be grossly overpaid for doing little of value, so why would you notice.
Go ahead. You may now start to complain about how you, your father and your grandfather all worked your butts off to achieve all your financial success, that no advantages of any sort were conferred upon you as you accumulated wealth, and that you deserve every single penny and then some.
How dare a black woman make more money than you and not be grateful!

People really do just love being the victim.

You make some good points in your post but being upset?
Serena is the one who is upset, despite having been paid millions to hit a ball with an oddly shaped stick (I have the same view about other sports and sportspeople).
She and all sportspeople who make lots of money should be grateful for the opportunity they get/got of making a living, earning a lot of money, from playing a game, regardless of the time and effort invested in becoming great at their sport.
Find yourself on this list instead of worrying aboutSerena:

This is prize money - there's no way to be discriminatory with this. How about you supply me with a list of endorsement earnings? I wouldn't be surprised if Serena isn't at the top of that, even though there should be a fairly strong correlation between the two lists.

Yes, but if Beckham was black, would he have been as marketable? Part of his appeal was his relationship with Victoria and his boyish looks, if he was a young black athlete in the 90s in a relationship with a white pop star - is it likely his popularity would have been the same?
The Sharapova/Kournikova/ Wosniacki blond-type is considered much more attractive to sponsors at the expense of black players who are more accomplished, that's the racism of which Serena speaks of.

Michael Jordan was a young black athlete in the 80s and 90s and he was in a relationship with a young black woman. Yet he was incredibly marketable and popular. Who didn't want to be like Mike?!?

Show the men’s prize money. Serena is the biggest draw in the sport. Above Joke and Fed & Ned.
Yep. Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods are still two of the richest athletes of all time. They both made great deals with their own Nike lines, so that helped.
If Serena looked like Beyoncé, she would probably make more in endorsements. Unfortunately, she doesn’t.

Yes, but Michael Jordan was the best player arguably ever, Beckham wasn't.
He made the most of his talent and all power to him. But would a black David Beckham even be perceived as handsome and youthful? Black athletes are obviously considered attractive but very much in a different way with the focus on their physicality.

Is Tiger Woods as attractive as Beyonce?
Mbappe makes $14M p.a in endorsements, including having his face on EA Sports FIFA '21 - Beckham was one of those rare sports people that crossed over into general celebrity culture. His name was used in movie titles, there was music released about him, he was used to spearhead a campaign for his country to win a bid to host the Olympic games. Whether you watched football or not, people knew who he was.
To say he was just a footballer is like saying Kanye is just a musician.
looks and personality matter when marketing athletes, especially females.
unfortunately for Serena she is lacking in both departments.
i'd argue she's been overpaid considering the poor standard of womens tennis compared with other womens sports.
