Firefighters? Oh please They douse the fire after property is already destroyed
Firefighters jobs aren't really about saving the burning structure. They save any people inside it (if possible) and prevent it from spreading to surrounding structures.

Nope! Not even close! Meterorologist are even worse!!! They give you a 10 day forecast and have the ability to change it 12 times without even saying wow I was wrong!
I feel like issue is not in being wrong or off on a forecast or even a medical diagnosis. But maybe the belief that the doctors word or the meteorologist forecast are stone cold locks. Everything should be presented with degrees of certainty.
Here are some professions that are worse.
1. Politicians. They no longer represent the people due to money in campaigns.
2. Bankers / Investors. They take value, not add.
3. Real estate agents. They add little to the process, but take a fixed percentage of the price no matter where the price ends up.
Most people will still go to a doctor even if they have had problems because they are often effective. Insurance often gets in the way of doctors treatments. If anything is broken, it is a system where a middle man profits from someone getting hurt or sick.

Doctors also NEVER WORK.
Ever wonder why it's so hard to make an appointment? Ask about your Dr.'s full schedule sometime. I guarantee it's something like "she's here Tuesday, Thursday, and one Monday a month from 11:00-4:00."
Every single one of my doctors are like this. PCP, specialists, my kid's pediatrician...all of them.
"She's here Tuesday, Thursday, and one Monday a month from 11:00-4:00" doesn't necessarily mean "she only works Tuesday, Thursday, and one Monday a month from 11:00-4:00." Many physicians cover multiple offices. Depending on the specialty and the specific contract, physicians may also be at the hospital part/most of the time.
An OB/GYN might spend two days per week in the office, two afternoons per week in the hospital, two mornings per week in the OR, and take night call on L&D one night per week. By your logic, that doctor is only "working" 2 days per week because when you call the office to set up an appointment you find that they are only in the office Monday and Thursday. My FM doc is at the home office 3X per week and is assigned to 2 different rural offices in nearby towns the other 2 days. This doesn't mean that my PCP only works 3 days per week.
+1 Real Estate Agents.
Real estate agents are perhaps the single greatest waste of a profession. Who else advertises their profession by using their own face on all advertising? Fixed % fee to do basically nothing other than having a secretary complete a standard form. I sold a house last year By Owner and saved $95k.

They are absolutely USELESS, especially on the buy side. They take 2.5% of the sale (usually tens of thousands of dollars) to literally write up a three sentence boilerplate offer that takes less than 5 minutes.

Before the internet I think they made more sense. Now you can see all the houses for sale in like 2 min and get reams of data on sale prices, etc. There's way less information asymmetry to exploit.
I am a physician. You do not recognize that physicians have many other duties than office hours. These include rounding at the hospital, filling out insurance papers, writing notes on office and hospital encounters, Writing letters to patients And calling them about results, Communicating with other physicians and specialists, Mandatory and necessary continuing medical education, committee meetings, and too many other tasks to list. I work 70 hours per week, and per hour make less than my plumber across the street. In fact I make less than my plumber in total, but he works far fewer hours and does not have to argue with insurance companies about prior authorizations. Try getting a plumber on Christmas! My extra charge for seeing patients at 3 AM, on holidays, on weekends: zero.
And to the person who says physical therapist do not have PhD ‘s; the vast majority now do.
In fact many registered nurses now have PhD ‘s.

50% of lawyers lose.
100% of doctors lose (eventually).
Im a Student PT. Most are getting DPTs, which are different than PhDs. I don't think many have PhDs outside of grad school professors.
The PT described by the poster is bad. Exercises shouldnt be generic and should change often if he is doing them. However, if everybody keeps telling him to stretch, he should probably stretch.
To the extent this is true, it's because med schools - nationwide - were required to lower the bar (for admission) several decades ago. Also, the MCAT was dumbed-down at about the same time. Same thing for law schools and for the LSAT. I'm a (retired) lawyer. I know whereof I speak.
Yes, Hillary didn't win, thank God!

You are comparing medicine to a mechanic?
Let me ask you this, when was the last time a mechanic replaced a spark plug and the entire car exploded?
The medicine that works for one patient can kill another. Patients can have phantom pain or issues that are completely in their head. A tiny blockage in an artery in just the wrong place can be fatal in minutes. The human body is an extremely complicated organism that we still are struggling to completely understand. I should hope a mechanic would have more success than a doctor.
What a stupid post.
Yes, and what other profession is held to such high standards and low mistake tolerances.
There would be no mechanics licenced if it were the same...probably all of them have misplaced bolts, torqued it up wrong, used the wrong part etc...no worries, we can just redo it.
I had my whole engine overhauled, then a month later my fan bolts snapped off, car overheated, the cylinders had to be re-bored etc
You can repeat that for almost every other profession
Amen. And you can add the sleeplessness of worrying about your patients with problems that don’t have good therapies. Most of my patients are very grateful for which I feel lucky. But it’s the patients that are doing poorly that I think about all the time.
Call me a hack if you like, but I trained 14 years to do what I do and will still get up at 3am to see you if you have a problem,
Everyone’s an expert based on personal anecdote and some random google searches. Please study the Dunning Kruger effect, process your narcissistic issues, and get back to us. Here’s a link. Oh, and you’re not an expert on it after you read the Wikipedia page.

Most physicians are very well trained, but unfortunately, now work in large corporate owned practices (production mills) where they are forced to see more patients in a day than is reasonable to provide consistent quality individual care.
Their strategy to survive in this environment is to adopt a "cookie-cutter" approach, providing pre-packaged treatment protocols for a diagnosis that best lines up with the "findings" from a cursory exam rather than the more time consuming process of performing a more detailed, comprehensive evaluation, when indicated, to nail down the correct diagnosis and an investigation into possible underlying causes of the symptoms that may also need to be addressed to develop more comprehensive and/or targeted treatment protocols for best outcomes.
I blame those who developed this system of medical management as much as the doctors who participate in it.
