Hey guys, I wanted to share a list that I think will help newbie runners. These are some things that have helped me in the past getting started.
1. Start off small and work up to running a longer distance to avoid injury. Change your route so you are sometimes running on trails and in local
parks and not just around the same track or area all the time.
2. Plan on running 3 times a week at first and listen to your body, if you are sore take an additional day off or perform stretches instead.
3. Invest in a good pair of running shoes – your motivation is to actually put them to good use.
4. Running 1 mile will approximately burn 100 calories – this can provide you with enough motivation to enjoy something like a slice of Pizza with your friends. Increase your running distance so you can burn off enough calories without depriving yourself of something that you really want.
5. Change the time of day you exercise, run or walk during your lunch hour, or just pack further away from the office.
6. Purchase a new pedometer or watch so you can track your progress while you exercise. There are so many new fangled devices out there today many of which can be connected to Facebook, so you can post challenges and track your progress with your family and friends.
7. Exercise with a family member or friend for additional support.
8. Set a small daily goal of distance or time for your exercise.
9. Enter a walk, run or bike race for charity.
10.Check out the weather a week ahead of time and take the worst weather day as your day off for that week.
