Portends well for Cheptegei tho it does look a bit warm.

should these things be counted as WR''s. They are more technological created events. Technology developed shoes, technologically developed paced lights, people breaking wind for her and pacing throughout the race. Why does everything now have to be paced and set up for a WR. Shouldn't it be done in an actual race against real runners. Why not put those oscar pistorius blades on their legs and shove a propeller up their ass to make them faster.
Yeah i'm an older guy, but i just don't find this interesting to watch at all.
I agree. I don't mind the shoes but think records should be set during actual racers. Having pacers is bad enough.
I have to admit that I don't really like these time trial records. Both Cheptegei in Monaco and now Gidey looked way too easy. I cannot imagine that several others could have run such times with perfect pacing and wavelight.
nobody wants to hear it from the technology haters, we get it there's wavelights and better shoes, move on

My only beef is with the Wavelight. It really takes away a great variable in running.

Jesus dude, shut up. People have been using pacers for decades now for WRs. Almost no WRs actually come in a race where the WR isn't specifically targeted beforehand. How far back do you want to take the shoe argument? Should everyone be running barefoot? Unless that's your opinion, any other point you would say a certain shoe would be banned is completely arbitrary.
We have championship records if you want to see a fast time in a big race. Go look at that instead of complaining.
It was a real race. Pacers are officially racing and there were a handful of others in the race.

yeah..same. I have no issues with the shoes as they are constantly improving over time...even the tracks themselves improve and have no issue with that.
However pacing is a skill for both racer and pacers which if used can be somewhat eliminated

great! what a running style, fluent all the way.
Fluent running? No. But the fact most of these East Africans speak fluent English is humbling.
Wavelight.
Might as well run these WRs on a treadmill.
Gidey was magisterial in the words of Ray Hudson. Chepkoech did a nice job, and you could tell at 2800 that the record was a fait accompli when Gidey was starting to champ at the bit to get by her and start running 67s.

10/10 lol
+1
Looks like McSewyn has changed course and is racing btw! No problem at all, I'm happy to see it.
I like Sonia's point about how this format lets us put the spotlight specifically on some of our sport's superstars. Great commentating all around so far.

Might just be me but it looks like McSewyn is struggling
4:12 first mile. So far so good, right on pace.
Viren 72 would take all these dudes.
Ramsden looks really uncomfortable compared to Kimeli and Cheptegei.
