RYEN FRAZIER 19:15!?!?! Holy heck that girl ran 16:00 in HIGH SCHOOL.
Hahahaha! Wasn't she running her 4 mile tempo at something like 5:30 per mile in that workout video a couple years ago? LOL

I mean she went to NC State.... it happens.
Seriously though, seems a bit slow for Chmiel and not a great debut for Walters. Chance these NY stars were maxed out in HS?

Wasn't her dad training her and not the NC State coach?

I think you are being a little harsh on Kelsey Chmiel who ran very well as a freshman, and also in their first meet this year. Claire Walters - well time will tell.
The 5K course was not the same as the one that the high schoolers run but would be very close to 5K in distance. The 8K course was the same course that was run for the 2016 ACC Championships when Knight ran 22:50 to win. It was about 7.7K then so assume it is still the same distance now.

Chmiel was still pretty fast. And Walters always starts her season slower but peaks very well later in the season. Same kind of goes for Chmiel, although maybe to a lesser extent.

Totally possible to be a little harsh on them.
But also a chance that as happens to studs when they got to NC State, they get worse year by year. Chmiel ran in the 15s indoor and isn't even near the top of her own team at the first meet? The training ain't working for her.
Kelsey has never broke 16:00 for a 5k, so you are way off. Not sure how the training at NC State is not working for her, when she was 21st at NCAA in CC as a freshman!?!?! Also she ran PR’s in track last year as a freshman as well. Looks like the training made her better?!?!?!
As for training for NY girls in college, most training for Elite NY girls coming out of high school does not do much because they are all way over trained in high school. They go to college and they are running the same amount of miles as they were in high school.......NY girls ceilings are not very high at all. Tuohy may be the best example, I predict she will still be a good runner in college, but won’t improve much, if at all. She will be a top 10 top 20 runner, but may never break into top 3 to 5. College training has nothing to do with it, it as to do with bad high school coaches overtraining elite high school athletes for their own ambitions to make a name for themselves. They are doing way to much mileage for long term success in college and beyond.
Anyone else surprised no interview with the coach of NC State and no update about the team and the individual Runners? Is that because of the coronavirus and the type of year it is?
Here's my two cents on all the conspiracy theories about certain programs being the death of runners. Mostly BS!
Obviously you can have a bad coach who just doesn't know what they're doing and and negatively impacts people
But let's face it most big-time college programs are going to have pretty good instruction training nutrition and amenities so for the most part I think people are going to get a pretty good chance to succeed
Anyway so much of it is just the luck of the draw with how you develop and how you mesh with the environment. And also of course how motivated you are and whether you find things that work for you in terms of nutrition and training , team chemistry, personality fit, and so on
But the biggest thing especially with women Runners is simply how they physically develop and mature. And of course how they prioritize athletic School friendships career and so on. Not everyone's looking to kill themselves and some people are just looking to, as mr. Miyagi said, find balance.
Anyway who knows Marlee starliper looks like she's in really good shape. I'm thinking she comes back guns a-blazing. Steelman's looked great as has Clairmont. Who knows maybe Katelyn Tuohy will find her stride again make the old magic happens. Or maybe she'll become a hippie and spend her days playing frisbee on the quad. Who knows
Ok, sorry 16:02
Then I think you proved my point or agreed with me in your 2nd paragraph.
Anyone have any info on the ACC Tri-Meet that NC State is competing in this Friday, the 16th? I can't find anything at all yet...

I believe the women are running at 4:30. Don't know about the men. None of NC State's top girls will be running but there may be a Starliper sighting.
