Today, at around 11 am,(because online uni) while I was out running, an old guy caught up to me, and started the following conversation:
"How old are you?"
"19"
"Happy birthday! I'm 67 years old"
As I replied "Enjoy your run" with a smile, he started speeding up even more, overtaking me. I could have started chasing him, but that would almost be as pathetic as the interaction preceding it. (also it was a 6th run of the week, and I was supposed to go easy for an hour). Of course, I was slow, running a pace of around 10 minutes per mile, but he was only running around 9 minute miles, which is also not too impressive(And I'm almost a feet taller than him, even though I'm quite lean, that would mean he is a good 30 pounds lighter).
Of course, this incident did not hurt my pride too much, because I accepted that I won't be fast anytime soon because I'm tall, untalented, and only started running 2 years ago. I'm doing this because I enjoy running and the gradual improvement.
But still, it bothers me a bit. Have you been shamed like this while you were out running? Or knowing that most people here are really fast, have you ever been the old man?(Please don't)
