If any US pro team in a major sport were to go bankrupt due to COVID, it would likely be a baseball team. More than any other sport they depend on ticket sales over a large number of games to make their millions. They lost money every game they played before the playoffs and the TV money kicked in.
Even without covid-19 I heard that they have been fewer at baseball games in recent years. I also heard on a sports radio talk show today that the number watching the NBA finals this year is way down from last year and it was down last year too.
On a previous show they discussed the higher percentage of young people who have no interest in watching any major league sports even before the pandemic.
I wonder how long the coaches and athletes can continue to receive more and more money as people find other interests to spend their time and money on.
