Bad news for high school distance runners. Both high school national champs have been cancelled. As Foot Lockers decided to cancel today.

At this stage it might be too late to try and organize something else but seems like in November something could be hosted in a centrally located state like Texas. Anyone think a one-off national championship might be feasible.?
I'm from Dallas so I'm a bit biased but DFW is accessible from everywhere. Anyone know what the restrictions are in Texas for XC Races.
A lot of people may decide it's not worth it as without the Foot Locker name there isn't the prestige but you would need a few prominent individuals to commit.

I was looking forward to Vanny this year too
-
it's all China's fault, we should hold them accountable.
-
Really sucks for us non national caliber seniors to not get one last shot at Regionals. But we're used to disappointment by this point.
-
The good news is that they are cancelling early enough so somebody might have time to put together a replacement event. Maybe the guy who put together Desert Dream in Arizona can do a repeat for XC. Abby Vanderkooi and Brooke Rauber flew in for that one and they would be two of the favorites for the girls race. Newbury Park and Great Oak will be in AZ this weekend. Maybe they could invite some of the top teams as well.

Aren’t foot locker and Eastbay somewhat competitors? I’m confused about the relationship here.

Right now most meets are regulated by UIL guidelines for public school (no more than 8 schools per meet/race)
TAPPS (the private school league) is about the same.
The thing is, each county might have different rules about large groups, for example a meet that was supposed to be held in Waco on our state meet course (TAPPS) was just canceled because the meet host could not secure a permit due to group size limits. -
Same company.

Sorry this post was in reply to Wejo's question about Texas XC -
Lets hope. Home base for the Pings too. Just saw an interview of Stormy Wallace flipping out on Governor Newsome saying she would move anywhere to run if she couldnt in CA. And I feel bad for Thorvaldson. Seemed to be her crown to lose this year finally.

We are running a meet this weekend with 75 teams. Somebody must be willing to organize a meet for maybe the top 20 teams and 100 individuals. A sponsor is not needed if you charge enough. Many XC runners are wealthy.
-
That sucks. They could have pulled it off safely. I feel bad for the athletes. That risk was minuscule. Are they going to keep everything shut down until a vaccine gets here?

And the weather here is perfect that time of year. Even if it was just individuals (to keep the numbers down) that would be great. I feel so bad for these kids. Yes I know people have died, but kids losing their major life events is still tough for them I'm sure, especially for seniors. -

AAU is hosting a meet in Tallahassee, Apalachee Regional Park, Dec 4th, with some minor tweaks and a lot of marketing could fill the void. -
There has been a massive over-reaction (in every walk of life) to Covid-19, and a naive presumption that 'things will eventually get better.' The public are not stupid and appreciate that this illness is on a par with the common cold, chicken pox etc. and so will not present themselves en masse for innoculation.
What about the deaths which have occurred? Give five million citizens the common cold and a significant number of old / fragile people will be pushed over the edge.
Politicians (are there any stupider people on the planet) sad attempts to stop the illness spreading have simply extended its burn out time and the public have largely had enough of their meddling in nature and karma.
In a few years time, when Covid-19 will certainly still be with us, everyone will look back and likely laugh at most everyone dressing up as highwaymen and being terrified at their own shadows due to politicians feeling an overwhelming compulsion to fight wars and be adored. -

What state? -
Yeah it's sad but it makes sense to not want people from a bunch of different states to all get together.
For what it's worth, Nike is doing a sort of virtual regionals/nationals setup. It's obviously not the same but it's something, and you can still get an offensively neon hat too! https://www.runnerspace.com/eprofile.php?event_id=14127
And honestly if people can run national-caliber times at a non-national meet, that seems even more impressive. -
Risk miniscual - liability pretty high
-
Cannot see any legal liability if people consent to attending an event fully aware of the risks, which are microscopic for the age group in question.
The real liability issue is image. But I guess that's enough. -
This is not true. While the risk of transmitting may be low remember families will be traveling as well. They can then transmit it while on the plane, hotel, etc.
Additionally no youth sports are allowed in California. The race is about two months away. They can’t even get permits at this time and takes a lot of planning. You just can’t do this all last minute.
While unfortunate it would be impossible to pull off. And at this point I wouldn’t plan on youth or HS competition allowed until next school year.
