He will be back. If he wanted he could still run at marathon at a pace
that is faster than most of the trolls 800m pace here and iq. There is no point running though and making the injury worse. It was a good idea not to run in Tokyo last year and it proved successful when he went to Berlin 6 months later. Bekele could run the WR next year in Dubai or something. His injury sounds like it isn't as bad as the stress fracture he had last year so I'm sure he will get back in shape soon. He said himself that he will be back next year. He won't give up like idiots think. The race this sunday isn't even a real race anyway so who cares."
If he was gonna make up a reason to quit, I feel like he missed an opportunity... I’d believe he got COVID before I’d believe he went to London with a pre-existing calf strain. Man, will we get anything good this year?
Bekele is such a weird guy, not very dependable and quits alot...but then BAM runs close to a world record. You never know with him.
Also, is the injury that bad, surely it's better to try, considering major marathons don't come that often.
Breaking: My Heart
all hope is lost.
Total Running Productions goes home devastated. What will we do without another post-race video where the narrator breathlessly declares we just witnessed one of the greatest races in HISTORY.
Now Banana Bread is claiming London isn’t really a race. Would he be saying this if the Ethiopian Lardbutt was racing and in the mix at halfway? Doubtful.

You’re a pointless person anyway.
I think we've seen the last competitive marathon Bejeke will compete for already. He doesn't stay focused to train properly anymore.
Such a shame. Being the oldest competitor, he really got screwed by the COVID postponement. He seemed to be in solid shape running that half earlier this year.
With all his records on life support, this just fans the flames. 2020 took few prisoners .
Well this sucks. Just the other day, it was sounding like he was in Berlin shape. Hopefully we can get a healthy Bekele vs. Kipchoge showdown at the 2021 Olympics.
He needs to qualify first & be selected for the Ethiopian team which is no mean feat in itself considering the pool of talent they have competing for places.
Gebremew will be a formidable opponent, I always maintained he would be harder to beat that KB.
if this race is pointless then every race is pointless.
and every sporting competition and event is also pointless . Art, entertainment, recreation etc would also be pointless. Much of what people do is non-essential and perhaps pointless. Pandemic restrictions on non-essential activity showed that much of the economy is based on pointless fun and games.
I disagree and many others would also.
Likely millions of people would like to be the 2020 London Marathon Winner. For the accolades, for the opportunities, for the prize money, etc.
All of running, and sport in general, is rather contrived. Why run if not trying to escape or catch something? Running 42195 meters?
All of that is perfectly ok.. Accept running for what it is and enjoy what you can.
To the poster saying a loop course is pointless, much like running fast on the track, I guess 200m and shorter is ok...
Despite that, most on here are track runners, any some even ask what their 5km track time would be, i wonder how many laps that is?
The New Ritz but with better PRs.
Sad news, I don't think he is a liar and I find some of the comments very disrespectful to such a legend. I feel bad for him to put so much hard work in leading to an injury in a race so important to him. The good news is it can't be that bad of a calf injury if he actually flew out to London so I'm sure he will another Marathon to get that WR.
He's 39 in June next year but if he says he's back next year then he must know he is getting faster still not slower.
I don't know what the odds were on this, but I would have been a rich man if I would have thought to bet on it.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
