I cannot see how Minnesota will have a strong recruiting class this year. Sure, the recruited athletes aren't going to be the first ones to get cut, but there is no way potential recruits can even consider looking at this in a positive light. The state of Minnesota XC and Track seems to be in a freefall and I cannot see a easy next couple years.
I expect the rest of the Big 10's to snatch up any of the cut athletes with any potential, as well as schools like Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan (and Michigan State) to be able to quite easily use this to sway recruits on the fence. If I was a recruit right now, it would be pretty damning for Minnesota. Going to an administration that pulls new events like this every week it seems would be very scary, in uncertain times.
Overall, this is a event that will hamper Minnesota XC for years to come. They have been a program that THRIVES off the ability to takein potential, and pump it to national and conference level success. It is a sad day for our sport, and that era seems to be coming to a end for Minnesota.
