I started running during the running boom in the late 70s early 80s. Everyone stretched like crazy back then. My XC coach wouldn't let us jog an easy day unless we spent 15-20 min stretching first. Only thing that is new today is that stretching has been commodified into an industry with yoga studios and lots of different rollers, ropes, etc. you can buy to help with your stretching routine.

I'm just spitting the facts here. Should men wear short spandex shorts? The answer is so obviously no! So why is the bar so low for women?
This is why women earn 77c to the man's $1. Society doesn't hold them accountable to social standards so they get outcompeted in the job market.
And then they have the audacity to complain about inequality of outcome. Even though they had the same opportunity.
Society doesn't hold women to social standards? Buddy you have no idea the social pressure society puts on women to be the ideal "woman." Imagine if a woman had gone onto the stage last night and done what Trump had just done. I bet you and the media would of had a heart attack and called her "too brash" and 'out of place." You have no idea what it is like to be a woman clearly, so stfu and let us wear our comfy spandex. Trust me, we ARE NOT wearing it to creeps like you creep. stfu

Same experience. Now middle aged and sitting at a desk all day requires stretching and warm up before most activity. I do a mix of normal and active stretching that also achieves some level of balance and strengthening.
Not sure how this turned into misogynists complaining about women's shorts. That's LR I guess.

I'll wear short spandex shorts if I damn well please. If you don't like it it, you're cordially invited to look the other way. How does other people wearing what makes them feel good affect you in any way?
1. "Do not paint them all the same."
Larry Myricks (28'8" in 1988 and 20.01!)
2. "Doing too much of anything can be bad."
Bill Walsh-Hall of Fame NFL Coach
3. Physical Therapists recommend stretching along with many
other modalities to deal with injured athletes. I doubt I would be
running at 63 years young if not for stretching!
4. What part of running faster bothers you?? It's now common to see college runners finish under 4 minutes in
the mile run. In the 1970s, only the top professionals could do it!
5. Many athletes do not get hurt until college when training loads increase.
6. The person who started this thread should confess that he hasn't a clue.
I do not run as much as I used to, and also do not stretch as much.
It probably would help if I did more of both. Neither running nor stretching
is bad for you, unless you overdo it! Consistency + Progression is more important
than either. Running 3 miles three times per week is probably better than running 4.5 miles twice per week.

Amen brother
Anyone have evidence of the benefits of stretching for running which isn't an anecdote?

Well my brother said his coach told him that "Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…"

Not going to go to Sham's extreme, but he has a point. Lines should be drawn somewhere. You could make the point that everyone should walk around nude if they please.

No. Didn’t you see the video of Kipchoge trying to touch his toes and all his teammates making fun of him cause he couldn’t? No elites stretch
I said they stretch not that they’re flexible.
Look at this video of Kipchoge after a run stretching. From about 7 mins in. At about 8 mins he does a deep lunge that I can’t do.
https://youtu.be/h94CJK-Ywb4The key is to start with a slow jog to warm your muscles. When your muscles are warmed up, they are as elastic as they need to be. Worst thing you can do is start a run too fast. This is even worse than stretching.
