Two Juggernauts show down in a tactical 10,000m, where only the last 250m mattered. Far from being considered one of the greatest distance races of all time.

Ummmm, EVERY 10k is a boring race.

It's less than half an hour of your life to watch a race in a sport that you're supposedly interested in.

Agree, 10k on the track is awful. Either a sit and kick like that or a Bekele style blowout with no drama. That being said, will of course watch Cheptegei's attempt as it is academically/theoretically interesting in a Monza/Vienna sort of way.
u mad bro?
If only the last 250 mattered why was most of the field more than 20 seconds back?
And was it just a coincidence that the two fastest ever at the time finished 1-2?
Damn I really thought Jones was done there at the end. Tough dude.
The 1996 10k showdown between Geb & Tergat was much more entertaining. Unfortunately, the video of the second half of the race has been taken off YouTube for copyright infringement. If you can find it, it is worth a watch.
Me too. I love Steve Jones.

Enthusiastic +1 to this! I love the 1996 race and the commentary is outstanding. It was a shame the second half was removed a couple years ago. If anyone has a link to that (the whole second half, not just the last minute) please share!!

Watching a runner break another runner with change of pace short surges or hard laps is not boring. Watching the Ethiopians in 2003 break the Kenyan runners was awesome.
The problem in the 10,000 on TV, whenever a runner is broken it seems to happen during a commercial break.
You come back from commercial and the race has changed.

BBC in Uk has no adverts and the other channels here would not cut to the adverts in the middle of a race either.

Truth. You have to be certifiably insane to watch a 10k start to finish.

Shhhhhhh
Sit and kicks are boring.
Time trials are boring.
“Fans” of this sport are never satisfied
Even though it isn't the same kind of showdown, I have always loved the 2004 Athens 10k. It was a masterful showcase of team tactic racing, with Bekele, Sileshi Sihine (one of the most underrated guys of all time...had the bad luck to have his career bridge Geb and Bekele), and Geb. Tadese hanging on even through the tactical pace changes....
The Doha 10,000 was pretty fun to watch in my opinion. Rhonex & Joshua switching off leads, Kejelcha trying to sit on them for 9600 meters but can't outkick Joshua all the same, blazing fast times. It was good.

Agreed. Women's doha 10k is even better. Gidey going from 1600 out, Hassan hanging on by a thread.
Another "hate the 10,000" thread. Ho-hummmmmm.
Love, hate, well it's subjective. Me, I love the 10,000 on the track.
But, I am bored sh*tless by these "hate the 10,000" threads.
Yes, I do love Ron Clarke and Vladimir Kuts. And Emil Zatopek. Yeah, I'm a boomer. Eat my shorts, etc.
XOXO,
