any stories on this, advice, tips? I can pedal without pain. how can you get a decent cardiovascular workout from it? seems hard to get my HR up, but maybe I am a bit lethargic today.

Depends how much healing time it’s already had. I used the assault bike coming back from a femoral neck fracture, but it wasn’t until about 6 weeks out. Mine was pretty bad though and I had been non-weight bearing until that point. There’s a lot of resistance on the assault bike so if you’re early in the healing process I wouldn’t chance it, femoral neck sfx is a doozie.
I'm using crutches, but I'm allowed to weight bear on both legs. I could use the assault bike arm-only if legs is too risky
