NR now in the 1500 & 3000. Blows away field. Just an amazing runner,
Love that he just goes for it.

He ran great! As Cram said, he's just fully committed. It was a Tim Cheruiyot-paced style race. Fast first lap (54-mid for McSweyn), two steady laps (57-mid), and then he had a great last 300 (around 41 flat). Barega was mighty impressive, too, in getting under 3:33.
Isn't McSweyn running a 10000 soon? If runs sub 27 would he be the first to run 3:30 or under and a sub 27?

Mo Farah did it
He has steadily dropped his times since turning pro in 2015. Now at 25, he has strong PRs across the board.
1500: 3:30.51
3000: 7:28.02
5000: 13:05.23 (from 2018)
10000: 27:23.80 (from 2019)
I think he is now capable of roughly 12:55ish and 27flat. Looks like his best event is going to be the 5000, as he has incredible pace and good endurance for a Doha type finale.
I think he can also get to sub 3:30 without a timetrial style race next year.
It's a shame that the altitude is a factor but the Kip Keino meet in Nairobi has a spectacular 5,000 field. Wonder if McSweyn has any plans or it will be an All-African field.

Thanks. That's right. I thought Komen may have also but looking at it he only ran 27:38.
So only two ever that have done it.

Kejelcha has run 26:49 and 3:47.01 for the indoor mile. The IAAF scoring tables equate that to a 3:29.79 1500.

Kejelcha's indoor mile WR coverts to something like 3:29 high or 3:30 low. That's the only other arguable one I could find.
Sesamoiditis and I had the same thought!
Clearly in sub 3:30 shape. It's a shame he didn't have anyone close to him at the end.
Kejelcha? That's indoors and that's the bouncy Boston track. Kejelcha ran 3:47 there, Gregorek ran 3:49 there, Prakel ran 3:50 there, and Wynn ran 3:51. None have been close to that outdoors. You can't use the Boston numbers to extrapolate what someone will run outdoors. Kejelcha is a 3:32 runner. That's it.
He’s run 3:31 in Birmingham indoors. 3:48 armory I believe. So, no...
He is having a helluva year. Props to him!
That was a doubly rough one for Gregson.
Another Aussie NR: Hull's PB went from 9:08 to 8:36!
OMG. Why do you all forget these times this year are being significantly aided by the shoes, yes, even the spikes have carbon plates!
It's the shoes you fools!
question of when he gets popped, not if
oh wait, he's from a comrade country
I did hear previously that McSweyn is running in the NN 10000 on October 7 where Cheptegei is running. However, reading this, it looks like he's going back to Australia and start training for Tokyo. Too bad if he decided to skip the 10k.
"McSweyn will now return to Australia and push himself to lift his training levels again to put himself in the frame for a medal in Tokyo at the postponed Olympics next year."
A great run to cap off an incredible couple of weeks for McSweyn.
I feel like if the pacer had stepped off at the bell and Stewie hadn't needed to swing around him he might have got sub 3:30?
Our best medal chance on the track in Tokyo, the question is which event(s)? I like his chances in fast 1500...
