You have an obligation to speak up. How you speak up is key. Must be with tact and respect!

And with the smallest audience required.
Hahaha cute that you think tech isn't in a bubble. It's like 2008 mortgage and insurance industries with the additional bubble of super cheap $ for VC to fund unprofitable every app out there. 2000 websites = 2020 apps/VR/data analytics
Swaglord_the_real_one_1 wrote:

Those programmers in 2000 were working at bunk tech companies on HTML for a website. That was a bubble
I know it's somewhat difficult to predict, but at your next interview, try to get a good gauge on who you'll be working with, their personality types, body language, how they speak to you in interviews. This is so unbelievably crucial.
I once took a contract job that paid a lot of money and after about two weeks I was able to determine that I was working with too many sensitive types, too many insecure people, and some straight up bullies. I got a bad feeling about them during my first interview (my would be boss used lots of profanity) but I ignored it and gave them a chance anyways - huge mistake.
Apparently, a lot of Creative/Marketing Agencies are this way. They attract a lot of delusional, soft people with terrible interpersonal skills.
I left that job about 4 months after I got fed up with an insane project manager (who was trying to fire me) and got new job that paid a bit less but the tradeoff was that I was working with a good team, smarter people, and I'm generally happier everyday. I've been here 3 years now and gotten company recognition two years in a row, where I don't think that would possible at my previous job.
But tact is everything. Always go to the default of keeping your ears open and mouth shut. Try to work with people to find solutions to problems, instead of blowing up and criticizing first. Vent at home to a family member, never to a co-worker no matter how tight you are with them.
Old habits are hard to break and sometimes these jobs feel like your being suffocated, but you need to get paid to survive, so do what needs to be done to get that weekly/bi-weekly check and possibly leave the job if you feel like you are against what they stand for the next time around.
You sound like a real douche. "hahahaha cute"? Seriously?
I think what you are trying to say is that tech company valuations have been driven up to unreasonable levels (although admittedly they have taken a step back) which is somewhat but not entirely pegged to the job prospects and earning power of the tech labor force.
I also would assume you would agree that the role of technology is far more ubiquitous today than it was 20 years ago. 20 years ago the internet going down globally would have been a serious inconvenience, now it would be a humanitarian crisis of alarming magnitude. I say this only to underscore that RSU compensation for engineers may be a bit out of control at present but I don't see a world where skilled software engineers, product management professionals etc. will have trouble commanding salaries that continue approach and ultimately surpass traditional high earning professions like finance, medicine and law.
That is all.
Don't fret over it. You are good. You have saved your $$ and you will bring value to another company or venture out and start your own thing.

If the op quit because they were asked to do something that violated their moral beliefs that would make sense. I don’t define integrity as criticizing others.
You’ve made your bed, now lie in it seems more appropriate.

Update on my situation. After getting fired, I applied for CA Unemployment and have been collecting around $750 a week. I also put all my savings into Bitcoin and have increased my assets by 800%.
To the person who said the next 6 months would be the best time of my life, you were right.
At this point, I don't regret being outspoken in the workplace and calling out my manager for underperforming. I'm even mad at myself for waiting so long before starting to call people out. Now, I'm in control of my time, and if I manage my money correctly, I'll never need to work for a bad company ever again.
How you save face while managing conflicts takes priority over the rest and always will.
I see your point, but I'm not sure about that. I'm tired of seeing my peers play the corporate game of pretending to like their managers and kissing their butt and getting nothing for it. I did what was on everyone's mind but what everyone else was afraid to do. If I saved face, I'd probably still be working for a bad company being unhappy. These days, I do a better job of avoiding unnecessary conflict, but to all my friends who are looking for a new career path, I'm telling them to be outspoken and get fired.

Until you get hungry.
Then a paycheck is pretty fackin' nice.

While this is true, you can't pay the rent or buy groceries with integrity...those things cost money.
Also, people often confuse their own foolish pride with integrity.

We're proud of you, son.

You can leave without getting fired.
Look at how much effort leading governments spend on outrageous human rights violations in less powerful networks. Being on the right side >>>>> morals.
Spiritually cleanse yourself elsewhere.

Unemployment is $750 per week in California? Almost $40,000 per year? That's $18.75 per hour for someone working 40 hours per week. If someone didn't have any big goals in life and just was content with living a decent modest lifestyle there would be no incentive to work whatsoever. You'll never live like a king but you can certainly get by. Add the Covid stimulus checks and it is no wonder why employers are having a tough time hiring people for lower paying jobs.

Glad to hear everything worked out. Here's my take.
Lots of managers/supervisors are borderline incompetent and secretly very insecure. When someone rocks the boat, they fear for their own jobs. When you point out problems, they fear (correctly) that it reflects on their competence... so they go behind your back and lie to their supervisors about you. You're the problem. You're the one making problems. At the same time, they might even be nice to you... remember, they don't want to rock the boat.
I'd bet if you have contacts at your old job, you could verify what I'm saying. It's a learning experience. Glad to see that you landed on your feet.

I'm not sure about a "decent modest lifestyle" on 40k in California. Maybe you can rent a room without too many roaches and ride the bus.

Obviously you don’t know what the cost of living in CA is like.
