Unfortunately, I found out yesterday about 3.5 miles and then my calf strain resurfaced and I had to walk it in. I'm 40 and I have not been able to finish a run in 3 months. I always end up limping home with what feels like a calf strain. Any tips?
You say "always" so it sounds somewhat predictable. How about not running to the pont where that happens? Instead of 3.5, run 2. Then 2 the next day, and keep running 2 every day for a week, or whatever you can do consistently 5-6 days a week. Then after like 2 weeks of that and you are absolutely 100% sure you won't strain that calf, start running 3. Start off super conservative like that and you'll be able to ramp up more later. That's what always works for me. That works better than going out and doing too much, then being all messed up and not being able to run at all for days, and repeating that over and over.
