Word is that HBO pulled it after a lot of complaints from LGBT groups and from Eastwood over Bernie Goldberg's reporting. Goldberg used June Eastwood's former name. Trans people call this "deadnaming" and it is considered to be very offensive to use someone's former name.
He also said in the story that June Eastwood was a woman trapped in a man's body. That is also an offensive trope in the Trans community. .
Ok. Good to know. My goodness. So taht means I saw the offensive clip. This is insane.
The two minutes I saw were very factual. They showed June dominating the Big Sky conference mile and then said something along the lines of this might not be a story except for the previous 3-4 years June East wood was **** Eastwood and on the men's track team. I think they even showed a picture.
I remember thinking, "I'm surprised they did that but am glad they actually did that" .
How is saying that June was a woman trapped in a man's body offensive? That's exactly what the case was.
Since my last post, I was researching what got Joe Rogan in hot water. It was mainly the same thing in he referred Caitlyn Jenner's old name Bru** Jenner and said the US lost a great Olympian and said you can't even mention **uce Jenner on wikipedia or twitter without getting banned.
I guess if they want to say June used to be on the boys track team and not mention her old name it might be a little better but these are facts. I'm all for not needlessly making someone uncomfortable but the reality is June used to be on the boys track team.
Can a divorcee determine they don't want anyone talking about their old last name? Of course not, it's a fact. But what scares me is facts don't matter. The Brown University paper being pulled is scary. If a fact does against what we want to be true, it may not be good enough anymore.
I really hope they at least edit the piece and let it run.
