I beat a guy that was a 1:50/3:59 guy in XC. As far as guys that I've beat in their main event, nobody of note.

I beat Nathan green when he dropped out of a race last year...
Does that count?
I have beaten:
Lasse Viren and Frank Shorter at NYC marathon, Bill Rodgers at Boston marathon and Duncan MacDonald (1976 Olympian at 10K) at XC nationals. While none of them other than Viren was in their prime at the time neither was I as I am the same age they are.
I once outran Olympic gold medalist Simon Whitfield on the first leg of a duathlon. 2008 desert classic I think. It was pretty cool.
I beat Pablo Solares in an 800 at Mt. Sac in college. He went on to become a Mexican national record holder in 3 different events. I went on to beat some J.V. high school runners at local all-comers meets. while I was still trying to hold on to the dream at 28.

I beat a 15 year old Max Burgin in a 5k race when I was 18... not a great achievement but it’s as close as I’ll get to beating a pro

Isaac Songkok
CJ Albertson. Fresno state watermelon run. I had just turned 16 and I think he was 11.

Ron Hill-When he was 80+ years old and I was in my early 30's. But I totally owned him.
Nice thread idea!
I was proud to finish ahead of Ginette Bedard the year after she set her first AG marathon WR.
I beat Sage Canaday at Comrades, but I’m also a Meat-eater so beating him was easy. He looked really malnourished that day - he probably has a hard time getting enough Protein.
Bob Kennedy -- I'm 2-0 lifetime.
- 1999 USATF XC in the muddiest race I've ever run in Greensboro, NC. He ultimately DNFed but he was still running when I passed him.
- 2004 ING NYC Marathon. He was talking about 2:10 going in, and DNFed.
In H.S., Jeff Van Wie -- Still the NY State record holder in the 800
- Improbably, I outkicked him on the last lap of a DMR anchor; I was a senior and he was a sophomore, so he wasn't yet THAT Jeff Van Wie. Full disclosure: Leon Finney outkicked both of us FTW.
I beat Clayton Murphy in an 800 once upon a time. I outkicked Jesse Garn in an XC race once as well (not sure if that counts) I also held Brandon McBride off for 600m once at Spire, but then he ran fast
Bob Schul. I was coming off a good season at the Univ of Florida, and was working out with Bob in the summer of 1967 at Berkeley, Calif., when he was attempting a comeback for the 1968 Games and I was trying to extend my season. Very rigorous and weird training system, based on Igloi. I hated it ... lots of sprints, again and again. Anyhow, Redwood City, CA, at an all comers meet , 3000m, I took off after a few laps on a clay track (typical then) and won. To be honest, Bob had only one good year (but what a year it was!), and certainly wasn't his former self in 1967. Anyhow, it was something to me, and I value knowing Bob, even if for a short time.
Mike Vic's dogs were gaining on me but I beat them.
