Well, to be fair, they do need that cash to pay for their bloated administrative enterprises and their vanity construction projects.
In the last 20y, the research unit I work in has gone from a few support and maintenance staff and mostly scientists to a bureaucratic mess with ghastly numbers of additional "support staff" who add little value and soak up $$$$$.
maybe i should be a bureaucrat and get mad cash ?
Looks like the American Universities have had a RUFF time during covid.
I graduated from college almost 26 1/2 years ago from a large well know but not power 5 conference university. I have justified and defended colleges & universities quadrupling tuition over the past 26 1/2 years. College and university dorms are better. If professors get paid a lot more, great! American football, really! A sport athletes drooling and bleeding on each other is the norm. Professional athletes make grown person decisions. The vast majority on a university football team are not on a full ride. State governors in many states have mandated masks while we are indoors outside our homes. I agree. Is N.C.A.A. Am. football bigger than a governor's authority? Did governors in states of Big 10 (14) universities have a say?

Professors are not the ones benefitting financially from the increase in tuition; it seems like the growth is in admin (especially diversity and inclusion departments, look up U of Michigan on this).
State governors had an indirect say in that they could establish policies not allowing groups of a certain size to gather and thus impede any conditioning or practices. CA and OR have such rules in place making it hard for those 4 PAC12 teams to be ready to play.
Dorms needed to be better. So many were built in the 60s with federal money flowing into colleges after Sputnik.
The issue with a lot of the building is that universities started to move from their mission of education to serving their customers with nice fitness centers and 3 star dining halls.
Have the outcomes from college gotten better with the increased cost? (Also, it should be noted that many states have cut back on the state funding so tuition had to go up to close the gap and then guaranteed student loans can cover that). Are college graduates leaving better prepared for the workforce?
The increase of majors also seems problematic. I believe in an old school liberal arts education in that college should give a student some basic courses that form part of us into a society with some mutual experience (military did this and does this for some).
Which type of dog should we thank?
German Shepard? Chihuahua? Golden Retriever?
Agreed. It's like they don't even realize that these players could catch a cold out there!

Good. I'd rather have colleges worrying about football than ramping up the cost of liberal art degrees and indoctrinating kids with socialism.
Hey man, we also need to cover every parking lot at every HS, Community College and University with solar panels because ... climate change an' shiite.
