The rationale is that the first part of your first sentence is not true.
Everyone is not wearing g masks.
Because people like you are not taking covid seriously.
The anti maskers are more likely to come into close contact of the general public and spread the flu.
So they want people to get the flu shot.
Otherwise, I agree with your premise and think flu cases will be down because of more social distancing than past years.
I have a feeling that all respiratory illnesses will be down this year; for three reasons:
(1) Unfortunately, Covid-19 has already take out a large portion of the most susceptible populations
(2) We taking a tremendous amount of precaution to keep crowds at a minimum
(3) I think a lot of healthy people that are working will not report flu cases as much for fear of stigma and quarantine; I think that the radical policing of behavior is actually going to backfire to some extent in that many people will secretly go to work to avoid being forced to sit out for two weeks, particularly were income cannot be loss...I don't think this will equate to more illness spread, but I would guess many more will not be calling in sick as much as they might have in the past.
Overall, I think deaths will be down this winter compared to the last few, we will see. Total deaths may even come out fairly similar to recent years. If this happens can we at least say good job America, that is if net deaths are not up? Time will tell and I hope this is the case. People have had enough death.
