No way. There isn’t a single dude I know who ran the 3200 that slow and still managed to get low 16s in the 5k.
If you’re a truly distance oriented runner with good endurance like you say then I imagine your 10:18 translates to a16:25-16:30 and a sub 34 10k if you throw in a couple fast runs during those thousands of miles, if it’s just distance sub 35
This is all coming from a dude with 2:04 4:35 9:54 16:18 35:48 PRs who only ever trained as a distance runner despite being somewhat speed leaning. I loved the 800. Coach just said no
Were any of the 10:18 guys you know 15 year olds who have apparently done 110+ miles per week for two months? Not to say that he'd be able to nearly maintain his 3200 pace for 5000 meters, but I doubt more than a handful of 15 year olds in the country have put in that sort of work for two months straight (assuming he isn't exaggerating... which is also a possibility).
Anyway, I ran 10:19 as a high school senior off of maybe 40 miles per week. Then the following year of indoor track (fitter than high school, but not as race sharp) I opened with 16:29 for a 5000. So perhaps you are right in your estimation of 16:25-30, but it is very difficult to say with the trajectory he is on.
