Germaphobe paranoiac types seem to like them, equating them with banning smoking in public.
What % of people will want them to stick around forever?

Masks are not going anywhere anytime soon. “Masks stop germs” has been so drilled into peoples’ minds for the last three months that even after COVID-19 rates go down significantly there will be a substantial minority of people so traumatized by COVID that they will never probably be wearing masks for years post pandemic.

This nonsensical idea that asking people to mask up now somehow means we/they/people want masks forever is something that holds America back.
Nobody, Absolutely nobody wants to wear a mask. But, until things are safer you've been asked to help out and do so. Sacrifice a little now so we can get back to normal sooner. The more people resist, the longer this will take.
Asking for gun-control is NOT asking to take away guns....
Asking to treat incoming migrants, legal or illegal, humanly is NOT asking for open borders.....
Asking police to hold their bad apples accountable is NOT asking for police to go away.......
Come on people, change only happens with compromise. From all sides.......
You wear masks today so you won't have to tomorrow.

The answer is obviously like .1% (always some crazy people). What will be more interesting is if people will start doing things like wearing them during flu season when they make sense. Maybe the social stigma will be reduced enough that it will be a common occurence and things like flu tranmission will drop by 1/3rd...
After the 0.0% you lost all credibility. It’s absolutely true that some people love public displays of wokeness or “virtue”. They wear a mask driving alone in their cars for crying out loud.

2% tops.
Were they driving around with masks to publicly display their wokeness or virtue before COVID?
They won't be wearing masks after COVID.
I will wear one on an airplane for the rest of my life. I have always wanted to wear one, but felt like people would think I was weird. Now that it is considered normal, I will keep it up. I am actually happy.
The answer to this question will change dramatically after November 3, depending upon who gets elected.

Maybe I should rephase that. I think more than 2% will want to continue wearing masks maybe 5%. But I think there is another group of people that has found they really like pushing rules on people who don't want them. This group of people will continue to call for masks for nothing more than to try and force rules on other people. Example Nancy Pelosi. A strong mask advocate except when she'd caught onTV at a Salon, I mean "setup". These people don't actually want to wear masks themselves but it is a lot of fun to tell others what to do.
You want an answer based on experience?
Since Sars (when was that?) I think I have seen at least one person wearing a mask in public everyday in Taipei. It is suggested to do that when you feel sick but have to be out in public places. A small minority, but enough that I have seen a mask everyday.
Currently, I'd say 100% of people wear masks on public transportation. It's mandatory. 0% of those wearing masks complain out loud. 80% everywhere else. In other words, 20% of people choose not to use masks when given a choice. Yeah, that's my anecdotal evidence and I'm sticking to it. We have had no local transmission Covid cases for the past several months. We have road races. We have large scale public events. We're right next to China. 7 people in TOTAL have died.
8 if you include the tourist industry.

OK, I think we mostly agree. There are a lot of busybodies whose first instinct is to tell other people what to do.

Have you never spent time in Asia? Mask wearing was common there long before covid. Do you really belief all of those people were wearing masks purely for political reasons? There are times when wearing a mask makes sense, like when you are in a crowed train, or when the sky turns orange from smoke.
And what happens if the next virus is much more lethal? What if the death rate is 10% for everyone? Would you still refuse to wear a mask? It was stupid that this was politicized - on both sides.

You never actually answered his question.
No one wants to have to wear a mask. But we will probably have to wear masks in the US in high risk situations for a few years after an effective vaccine becomes available because the COVID deniers and antivaxxers won't take the vaccine. This will delay achieving real herd immunity and make it important to keep wearing a mask.
All democrats want masks to be mandatory forever.
Forever? 0%.
Or maybe 1%. Some people are psychotic.

100% of the people already wearing them.
Because no one would be wearing them now unless that's what they wanted to do.

That's because covid is the only thing that masks prevent. There was no need for masks before because the 'rona is the only thing that masks stop, and it stops them 100%, destroys it. Mask up and you're good to go for covid, but you might still get other sicknesses.
