California, Texas, Utah, Colorado, New York seems to dominate NXN. But what states have failed to qualify a team, separately for boys and girls?
As far as I can tell, there are 16 states that haven't sent a boys team to NXN:
Alaska, Delaware,Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Vermont, and West Virginia.
There have been 156 different schools send boys teams to NXN out of approximately 14,500 programs in the nation (1.08%).
The states with the most boys teams at NXN:
California-50 by 26 schools, 8 podiums (They have their own region).
Texas-36 by 10 schools, 3 podiums
New York-32 by 10 schools, 6 podiums (They have their own region)
Washington-30 by 9 schools, 7 podiums
Illinois-29 by 12 schools, 5 podiums
Utah-25 by 8 schools, 5 podiums
Minnesota-22 by 8 schools, 1 podium
New Jersey-17 by 5 schools, 2 podiums
No other state has more than 8 trips to NXN.

Michigan isn’t allowed to send schools to national meets, as per the MHSAA. That’s why there is usually a big showing of unattached Michigan athletes at NXN and footlocker. Not sure about other states though.
A big factor is whether states allow/encourage HS coaches to continue coaching after the HS season is officially over. As I understand it, in many states like Utah the HS coaches coach their teams through NXN and perhaps indoor so there is continuity of training.
In contrast, my kids’ coaches had great teams, but flat out told the teams they were on their own after state and that it was prohibited for them to give any more training in preparation for NXN or FootLocker. As a general rule, few even ran NXR and most of the runners who did performed demonstrably worse at the NXR regional meets.
