You realize the irony of that statement considering the government funded requisite national anthem propaganda that has been forced into sports for years now?

Right, next they’ll pushing military displays and camo uniforms.
The NFL is entertainment. People watch because they want to be entertained. They want to forget their soul crushing job, the demented president, or their sorry lot in life for a few hours once a week. Entertainers survive by giving the public what it wants. The public isn't interested in these displays. Almost no one cares what a second string linebacker thinks about social issues. No one is watching to see that. If I wanted to watch a BLM protest I'd go downtown tonight.
Increasing numbers of people are tuning out and turning off. The NFL is likely to see a significant revenue shortfall this year due to Covid. Declining ratings are already happening. Star players are retiring early due to CTE worries and fewer and fewer children are playing football.
I love football and I'd probably watch anyway. But the NFL needs to be careful here. It wasn't too long ago that NASCAR was on every weekend. Now it's nowhere to be seen.
I feel that way and military displays but I’ve had to endure them in the NFL for years. Oh well.
NASCAR banned the confederate flag, sponsorship money is more important than a few triggered confederate fan boys.

Coffee Monster: That's pretty cool. I am also from KC. Very happy to hear this.

One of the teams didn't come out for the national anthem. I can see why that would trigger people if the players then have a moment unity to another anthem. That kind of seems like a middle finger to the country. A pretty divisive action to take right before a moment of unity.

The general public is booing too:

On top of that, with reduced ticket sales due to COVID, all of these players are looking at sharp reductions in salaries going forward if this trend continues.
You do realize the NBA (Lakers) and NHL playoffs were on at the same time as the NFL season opener, right? Those two games draw 1-3 million in tv ratings. Bottom line, this is a special year.

Yeah this is fake news. People will lap it up and think KC is a bunch of rednecks, though.
So we're clear: KC isn't a bunch of rednecks. It's a bunch of Joisey wannabes drinking RedBull and wearing flat-brimmed ballcaps.
Which is worse.

Lol okay buddy.

I was going to post something similar but you stated it well. It's entertainment. People want to be entertained. If they want to hear about current events or some kind of social issue they can watch the news or read an article online.

Fast forward, here we are:
NFL is losing a lot of money and they have a lot of players on each team. Only time will tell what happens.

I heard from someone at the game that they were booing...
...when the other team came out. Then they were very quiet for the protest.
I don't know. I haven't watched a pregame show in years. This game I managed to time it perfect and turned it on right at kickoff. I just skip all the nonsense.

The key word in both statements is “if” which translates into “I don’t want to hear it” which MEANS injustices continue.
The irony is you two may be the very same people whom will say “I don’t see what the racial issue is”, but you can’t because you willfully ignore those trying to convey the issues! Or alternatively let’s sum this up by calling it how it is....watching a ball be thrown around IS NOT more important than the heroes who fight for OUR freedoms and protect OUR streets, but IT IS more important than that indirect thing called systemic racism that doesn’t threaten YOUR freedoms and liberties!!
There...said it...PLAY BALL!

You didn't see a BLM protest. You saw a one minute (1 minute!) moment of silence. If you don't agree with "social justice", just think of something you do really care about it. This was about the most passive, soft "protest" there could possibly be. Sporting events have moments of silence before them all the time. If you don't agree just suck it up and move on. You're not the victim here.
And I do love that a video in that tweet trying to say there was no booing clearly has audible booing (and other things being yelled during the moment of silence). Just a classic self-own.
People are just tired of being constantly bombarded with various forms of virtue signaling. Whether its about COVID or racial equity the constant virtue signaling and finger waving has just been nonstop in the news, media, tv shows, sports, etc. Americans just want to be able to sit down and watch a football game without being told how shitty they are and their country is.

Like flag waving and pandering to the military?

Let’s be honey it’s not the mixing of politics and sport that upsets some fans it is the brand of politics, different than their own that triggers them.

Exactly. Being good at dunking a basketball or tackling another human does not give you a better social picture than the rest of the country. Some of the messages pushed by these athletes are incredibly ill informed and often flat out wrong. For every Muhammad Ali there's a lot more Megan Rapinoes. What do you think athletes do all day study social issues? No they're preparing for their sport then see something on CNN that pisses them off like everyone else and jump into to the fray without any further research.
You want a moment of unity. Great no issue here. But dont have your moment of unity follow one team refusing to come out for the national anthem. Because that is a direct slap in the face to many.
The military is the only reason we have the NFL or Letsrun or a job or a country.
