This guy was amazing!
I am curious as to why he didn't or doesn't recieve the media attention he deserves. A 2:07 marathon runner, from the 1980's! This guy won several major marathons, like New York, Chigaco, etc etc, also great track times with 13:30s 5k's and 28's for 10k's.... Welch xc champ for 11 years!
and to put this all into perspective Jones worked some ridiculous manual labour job for the RAF, he was a plane mechanic.... With 40 hr work weeks, he ran the 7 miles to and from work, and from what I gather, also put in a "mid day" workout at lunch for some speed...
Rarley took considerable amounts of time off from work to train, considered himself primarily a mechanic, only viewed his running as a "hobby"
I can't imagine how he was able to keep hammering out the miles after a physically hard day at work....
is it just me, or do we all need to suck it up and work as hard as Jones did?
