Technically they do have a gun to their head. For a lot of black athletes, the only way out of a life of crime and a young death is to excel at sports. So, yea they have a gun to their head to play sports and be good at it.
That is funny. The gun is held by them. They are part of that culture who are robbing and shooting their neighbors. The ones who are good at sports are somehow viewed as the victims.

What this article DOESN'T say is that men's revenue sports also pay for basically all women's athletics.
The article doesn’t say men’s sports supports women’s sports because the referenced study didn’t study that. The article is about the study.

Let's take this foolishness a step further - why are blacks disproportionately represented in football and basketball? Are the white student-athletes being held down by racism?
Talent?
Obviously.

Rubbish. You can certainly say that the Southern wealthy benefited from slave labor (cotton picking) and the North from industry related to cotton (textiles). So yeah, perhaps "has been built" (past tense) to a certain degree. At least if you look at that one industry.
But in modern times, the country is not currently being "built" on the backs of blacks because they're just not working that much. Work has been disincentived in favor of welfare. Their work contributions today are a tiny drop in a large bucket.
They want no part of the study about revenue sports funding women. They want no part of understanding that millions of black, white, asian and hispanic kids would line up for the opportunity that football and basketball players are privileged enough to have at major colleges and universities.

When I'm driving around the MAJOR multi-cultural American city I live in, who do I see building things? The construction workers who are vast majority Hispanic. I also see Hispanic landscapers doing real work. Hard work. That's about it!

So you're saying white people are lazy?
Do white players get less playing time because of biased coaches? Do they get bad calls from biased refs? If not, what is preventing them from proving the doubters wrong on the court?
BTW, do you also wonder why there are far more white players (including the very best ones) in WNBA?
This has been known for a long, long time. Non-revenue sports lean heavily toward whites and the nature of so many youth sports programs are that pay to play and a lack of low cost play skews the demographics.
I am curious about part of the methodology where they traced the high school and looked at average income for the high school they attended. Maybe the data points are enough to take care of errors. For instance, I went to a private high school; I have no idea what the avg income was but 1) the school was small enough that a few wealthy people could skew it dramatically. Imagine if you went to the same high school as Warren Buffet's kids where the avg income would be astronomical, but not reflective. Median would likely be a better choice. 2) I was at the lower 20% of the income status.
I could also put forth that the university itself (with a few exceptions) are paid for by whites to give athletes the chance to compete.
Maybe, it is time to divest universities from intercollegiate athletics.

Draw your own conclusions. I'm sharing an observation in my local city about who I actually see breaking their backs to "build America." It's certainly not African Americans. In my blue collar experience, they came to work high and stood around doing nothing while collecting pay. We painted houses and they literally stood there painting the same spot all day long. I wasn't the boss or a snitch, so the other guys and I picked up the slack for them to get jobs done. We even picked them up at their homes 30 minutes away to help them get to work, since they didn't have cars. But they wouldn't work. Fun guys to have a laugh with, though, I must say.

Technically, they could use the free education to get of a life of crime. Not only that but if they go to a low performing school how little effort would it take to be valedictorian or top 10%, you don’t even have to compete with the affluent kids. Then when you apply to college look at all the minority grants and scholarships they could get. But, that requires effort and it’s so much easier to cry oppression and racism and look for a free handout from the government.

More BS propaganda from the left. If the poor black football and basketball players feel oppressed then they should not take part in college athletics. How about the fact that the money these players are supposedly generating is mostly coming from white fans. Let's stop with the race insanity and searching for oppression where there is none. It demeans the people that are actually oppressed in this world.
I did not get the sense the article was making a case black athletes are oppressed.
The education is not "free" they work hard for it. The number of hours put in is really, really high.
Also, it might be very interesting when NIL rights are in place to see how the money flows.

Blacks take much more from society than what they contribute. Check the crime rates and welfare rates and incarceration rates. Check the endowments at any university and you will find that 99% was donated by whites while blacks pay a lower amount to attend.
Incarceration rates are highly problematic. Discrepancies in sentencing is a real factor there.
Also, the victims of the crimes of blacks are most often other blacks.

So just get rid of all collegiate athletics and let the poorly treated black kids pay for expensive AAU travel teams.
That can't happen. That free labor provided by these incredibly talented black kids is making way too much money for the colleges, media, etc.
At the D1 level (which is what we are talking about here) the money goes to the athletic department; the university might not see any of the money. Some programs give to the academic side; others take from it through mandatory student fees.
Whi is it relevant to know the race of the victim? Dies it make the crime okay? Bottom line is that blacks are a net drain on the economy while whites are a net gain.

Really?
Billions $$ in Pro and College Football and B-ball. The labor is primarily black. There is one black owner.

Because you don't get the death penalty if the victim is black but do if the victim is white

Yes, really. America is much larger than just professional and college football and baseball. Your argument is that black contributions to sports "built America"?
