My son is in his senior year. Hes had a major injury and has slowed gotten to running again. The whole time he’s been having some slight issues with returning to running, but his coach wanted him to go ahead with it. But now the school has pulled out of fall sports late due to Covid uptick and he’s taking two more weeks off to get everything completely settled.
He’s pretty good, last April he ran 4:34 for 1600 (junior year) but then got injured pretty much right after that. The thing is he really wants to run in college, but all the places he’s interested in going to academically have standards of 4:20.
I don’t want to be the guy that shuts him down, and I certainly believe in setting big goals. But he’s barely been running the past 5 months and I don’t want him to get down on himself because he’s not in shape. He’s been doing a lot of aqua jogging instead, but obviously it’s not the same. Is this realistic? Should I tell him to set the bar a little lower?
