Yeah. 4:02.4 is good especially a few days after a long drive and barely any time to settle in. Good effort. Think in a race he will pr!

Racing with just his friend; maybe in an actual race he would have been under 4?
considering that he ran a faster last lap than the others, yes. But 3:59 isn't too special for someone out of DI

61.1, 61.7, 60.4, 59.1. Pretty good result for a time trial with not many races I think.
I can't believe people are saying 4:02 is a good result. This is a guy who just signed a pro contract.
Brooks should have made him run these time trials before signing him. They probably are regretting their decision now.
Everyone in that team runs good for like 1-2 years then burns out or gets injured. Also, is his friend just following his around or what? Spencer probably gets down to 3:56 and low 1:47 over the next couple years, and then ends up constantly injured.

He ran two slow laps with a guy who is very poor at pacing at 61 seconds . I reckon he could have ran 60.5, 59,60, 60 with better pacing.

If the first laps were too slow for him then he should have been able to close in a 56.
He could have passed the pacer at any time but he waited until 1k. Man up and do it solo instead of whining about pacers.
Stop being a fanboy and use your brain. Pro runner runs 4:02 mile. He's losing to a high school sophomore.

If times were all that mattered then B tier Kenyans would be getting tons of contracts. This kid has built up his following and is more popular than the Brooks beast. The Brooks beast need him more for publicity than he needs them. People don't realize it's about ROI, so if he runs 4:02 or 3:58 for some random time trial it doesn't matter bc he is getting views and getting their name out there. People can hate on him, but he is making money being a 3:59 guy, and other people faster aren't. He will sell some Brooks gear while other people on the team might be faster but move zero product and do not increase brand awareness.
I'm sure people will be lining up to buy the shoes and shirt of the last place finisher in a pro race.

Ok #1 only on LRC do we find ways to bash sub-4 milers chasing their dreams for running a 4:02 basically solo after driving across the country with no races going on.
#2 Beasts guys ran over 1:50 for 800, over 3:45 for 1500, & over 8:00 for 3000 during the Big Friendly Meets. I'm not here to bash any of that. It's a weird time rn. Let's not overthink the results we do get.
#3 Brooks is not going to rethink this signing. He is the one guy on the roster that is actually going to help sell the brand. If you can't see that, idk what to tell you. If you just don't like that, that's fine but Spencer still trains hard & wants to get better -- he just happens to be good at promoting himself & now his new brand.
#4 It has been said multiple times but his contract isn't a full contract. He has a tryout for 1.5 years to hit the times necessary to become a full team member. It's a good partnership for him (because his college times wouldn't have gotten him a team slot at this level) & for Brooks (views/clicks).
I've been following TAS for a bit. He puts out cool content. The daily grind videos are super cool & insightful. He's working hard & chasing running goals. Hate all you want but this is a unique opportunity for a runner just a cut below national class runners to train above his weight class to see if he can get there. Looking forward to following the ride. Looking forward to avoiding the hate that comes from this place.

they haven't 'signed him' yet, that's the whole point - this is a trial period for a year to see if he has what it takes.
also he would've run faster if his mate was a better pacer. would've closed quicker if in an actual race too. it's a 4:02 off self-set training and no direction for 6 months. but sure, bash him instead. what's your current Mile time right now?

Nobody watches pro races other than the Olympic, at least not regular people. Speaking as a hobby jogger, I couldn’t even tell you an American distance runner other than Galen rupp. But I’ve seen this guys videos and Seth demoor and sage Canaday. And it doesn’t matter if he ran a 3:50 or a 4:15, those times are untouchable to me. Even with the nba, most people couldn’t tell you the starting 5 for most teams but they know lebron James. If you’re not the best, no one knows who you. I would be surprised if more companies didn’t bring in some YouTube personalities to help market their gear. Only bitter people are complaining because they’re jealous. Anyone can start their own YouTube channel, or go out and try to beat rupp. Your only other options would be to be a female with a nice body.

People saying this is a bad result must be new to the sport. Think of guys like Manzano who would every year run races above 4:00, sometimes even above 4:10! out of the true competition season.
This is his “walking around” shape, and that is a great place to be with no races on the immediate horizon.
I watch pro races. This move makes less likely purchase Brooks.

It is a sort of so-so result. Not horrible but it also doesn't show that he is in much better shape than he was last year. Obviously you don't want to read too much into 1 race/tt.
It's funny how Boomers hate kids for their entrepreneurial spirit. They are the ones talking up the greatness of the free market yet hate when the kids use technology to make a brand and market for themselves. Is it because they are hateful that the technology didn't exist for them to do same or because they are are hateful of the kids taking it upon themselves instead of playing by the rules Boomers want?

If you watch this you really need to think hard about how you're spending your life.
Does he have his own personal domestique? That guy with the mustache was pacing his workouts/TTs in Boulder and now he's moved to Seattle and the same guy is still there pacing for him. Even when he went to pace Allie for 3k, his pacer paced his pacing.
