I believe the instability of the CAA is the reason for the cut. For some reason, the CAA doesn't have an Indoor Track and Field Championship and with all the other men's programs that were cut, there were only 3 left that sponsored men's track and field. It's down to two now. Only a matter of time before UNCW and Northeastern cut men now. From an AD 's standpoint, men's track and field was an easy target.
Northeastern has the option of going back to a more local conference, ie. Atlantic 10, Patriot or America East (where it had been previously). It will take some doing, but with the stronger academics now a part of NU, the Patriot League might consider adding them, if NU wants to move in that direction.
