WOW. Oklahoma women averaged 24:07 which is 6:28 pace. For the record, that's slower than a 20 min 5k.
Oklahoma men averaged 26:40 which is 5:22 pace. That's slower than 16:40 pace for 5k
all on a FAST course. Sad.
Totally agree that these are shocking times for a D1 school. I also though the recruiting class was women.
However, it needs to be said that the OK State course is definitely not 'fast' at all - very difficult and hilly - at least it was when we ran it back in the mid-90s; there is very long hill from the start (I think 800m- 1k long) which the men ran up twice, and the women once. The rest of the course was hilly and unpredictable with different terrain (soft in many parts). Harder for rhythm/track style runners. We found that it was one of the slower courses, but still no excuses for those sorts of times from OU today. Based on today's results, the top times in the men's 8k were very impressive, as were a few of the top women's (Logue particularly). OK State men look good, as does Iowa. Expect that the top finishers will figure at NCAAs (teams and individuals). Of course, they won't be top, as they don't have the massive advantage of altitude, a la UNM, Colorado et al. , but expect they'll be top 20 or so.
