Wow. What a crazy debut for a 1500m runner

To me it is actually slow. For a 31 year old to run 28:08 it is just a bit slow. Ben is a good national class runner but 28:08 is just too slow for a runner at the tail end of his prime. That is Ben’s problem now. There is no distance now where he is a factor. Nice career though.
Not really his debut, as he won Club Cross Nationals in 2018.
He ran 7:51 a couple of weeks ago. I think he'll do okay.
Ever hear of Webb v Ritz???
27:30ish
How fast do you think Engels or Murphy would run? How about Centro?

The way Webb talks about it, he was actually doing endurance-focused training that year. (Magness and Marcus podcast, Hall/Webb/Ritz podcasts.) So you can't just say Blankenship is 38/6.2 = about 6 seconds per mile behind Webb... the Webb that ran 27:34 is not the Webb that ran 1:43/3:30/3:46. But assuming you forget all that, a Blankenship that was 6 seconds per mile behind an imaginary Alan Webb that was the composite of all his best times would be at 3:36/3:52. Which ain't that bad.
Or, if you like, a 28:08 is 1120 points on the IAAF scoring tables, equivalent to about 3:39 1500m / 3:56 mile. So for an off-event, or even an on-event he hasn't run this season, it seems like a good performance.
Who cares guys. In one if his interviews after a recent race I think he talked about racing different distances. Good year to work on strength
first 10k he finished on the track. i’m sure it was slightly conservative to make sure he wouldn’t blow up. i could see his potential in the 10k to be low 27min. he runs actual mileage unlike lots of other USA 1500m runners. it’ll pay dividends.

Given Centros current shape, probably 31 mins:). Off last years shape sub 27:30. If you can run 13:00 for 5000m you will break 28 easily.
I don't think either Engles or Murphy has run a serious distance race since college so it is a lot harder to project how they would do. Murphy for example ran a 14:15 in 2015 as a 20 year old when he was a 3:41 runner. Got to figure he is in sub 29:00 shape at least and low 28s wouldn't exactly be a shocker. But I also don't know exactly how his training has changed since then (i.e. more or less aerobic work after he found all that success at 800m at the end of 2015)

If you look at the splits, the went out fast (bunch of 66s), slacked off in the middle (68s-70s) and then picked it up the last mile. Not perfect pacing but nothing too crazy.
Dude ran 13:33 last year. This is about the same as this 10k. Puts him in the tough situation of being a very, very good runner but a guy who is likely looking at being like 5th in whatever event he picks. Maybe he has a bit more room for improvement as a 5000m/10000m but it sort of feels like he will be a 3:35/13:20/27:50 type guy on his best day in 2021.

Low 27 ain't happening.
the thing is even if he’s a 3:35 guy on his best day, he’s a 3:35 guy who can make teams. that’s why his career has been so successful.

The US 1500m teams have been weak. We have had Centro but after that it is a hoard of 3:34-3:36 guys. But yeah he has had a great career for a 3:34 guy in terms of making olympic/WC teams. But I doubt he is running 3:34 low again (that is a 4 year old PR for a guy who is on the wrong side of 30) and am not sure he is seeing 3:35 again.

I totally agree. Based off PR's he really capitalized on his tactics and those tactics have made him $$$. Ben is very easy for me to root for since he grinds and actually runs mileage, Interested to see where he goes from now.

If he had taken his best swing at the 10k and 28:08 was the best he could muster I'd agree with you. But that is not the case. Let's see what he can do once he figures out how to run it. With his tactical skills and 1500m speed he could be a menace.

Wow, did you mention you thought it was slow? Great grammar. I hope for your sake you're still in 3rd grade.
Side note: I've bet you've never had a bad day when trying out a new distance.... idiot.
