He looks horrible. Little head, big body. He'll do as poorly as Kara Goucher did in her one and done trail race.
Finish/DNF
Maybe he should contact Jim Walmsley or Seth Demoor about shedding a few extra pounds to lessen the load for the vertical ascents and descents.
Wonder if he'll come close at all to Sara's time in the London 'Thon?
Doesn't make sense for a guy who running supposedly broke down.

Ugh...he looks like your average runner. who naturally has a big head. If your head is naturally big, and you run extensively, you're going to have that look. Some guys choose weight training to make their bodies look more proportional. Bulking up in the upper body will minimize the big head, small body look.

Ah I misread what you typed lol. I had it backwards. But his look is more proof that he isn't on anything otherwise his skull would have grown. I'm convinced he's 100% natty.

He actually doesn't look that awkward. The awkward look is having a tall body and small head. Since he's not super tall his head looks fine even with all of the muscle.
Assume this is the race. 40.7 miles. He says he hasn't trained. I don't think he can call himself an athlete anymore. Maybe, Social Media attention seeker is a better description. Kids, stay away from steroids, they are a dangerous substance.
For some reason out of all the lame "fitness" stuff he's been doing, this is his lamest idea yet. Why does he feel the need to keep pursuing this 'former elite athlete becomes a weekend warrior which is WAY COOLER' image?
His voice doesn’t match his body. Former runners like him and Kara are trying to stay relevant and need to move on.
Chances are high that he will have a DNF.
Seems like an odd choice. I thought if anything he'd do a Pump and Run kind of event to take advantage of his new strength.
Did any of you see Hall's appearance on Symmonds' drop last week?
Jump ahead to near the end - Yes, his run with Nick was just three miles and not an ultra. But unless he has been doing some secret distance training, the outcome of his proposed venture does not bode well for him. That is a lot of bulk to be carrying around for an ultra.
Looks like he was pushing pretty hard at the end. Result: not even in sub 18:00 shape for three miles 18:23 = about a 6:08 p/m. Equals about a 19:05 for a 5K. Heck, I am in my mid 60s and am not horribly far off that condition (<5%).
Sorry, (not sorry) I am calling a DNF. Hope I am wrong and he has just been training long not fast.
What are you smoking? Ryan Hall was an olympic marathon runner. I'm sure he can push himself to cover a mere 40 miles. Lesser humans have "finished" a marathon off of zero training. David Goggins is built like a linebacker and did lots of ultras.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvXqlrnyW-gI've seen untrained people "run" ultras before. If he really wants to do this, knowing that he can stop and walk anytime he wants to, I can see him finishing this. Seems like a really dumb thing to want to do though, and I have no idea what the point of it is.
I agree with the other poster though who said he can't call himself an athlete anymore. He's a former athlete.
Ryan Hall should ask God for more direction in life. He doesn't seem to know what to do with himself post professional running.
If he wants to be a body builder (a stupid idea in itself), then running an ultra is counterproductive. He'll lose a few weeks of gym gains just from the single-day effort.
If he wants to enter the ultra scene, then his foray into body-building makes no sense.

he wants attention
I ran Marine Corps in 2:36 one year on almost no training. Hall is twice as good as me. He will be fine.
