It’s unfortunate that in 2021 the US women are stacked in the 800 and 1500. Also the usually weaker 5000 is crazy good And 3000 sf is world class so it will be very competitive all around.
In the 800 you’ve got to assume Wilson, Rogers, Green, Brown, Lipsey, Edwards are obese to bet on and Baker, Rowsler, Price, Akins are all on her level and someone like Sammy Watson has the talent to make the team.
In the 1500 you’ve got Houlihan, Simpson, Purrier, Hiltz , as your favorites and a few girls who do other events that are as good that likely won’t do the 1500. And about 5 more at 4:02-4:03. This is probably her best shot. She will need to be at the top of her game and hope one of the favorites isn’t.
First off, with a 2 flat 800m PR, I doubt she would attempt the 800m. There are about a dozen U.S. women capable of running 2 flat. Her best shot is the 1500. I am not sold on Hiltz, she is young and will likely get better, but in my opinion up to now, she has only had one notable performance which happened to come at the right time. Simpson is clearly in the twilight of her career and has not won a race in quite some time, but I still think she can't be counted out getting top 3. The best shot for McGee is Houlihan or Purrier opting for the 5k and battling with Kate Grace, Sinclaire Johnson, Shannon Osika and Rachel Schneider one available spot.
Yes, McGee has a shot, just about any athlete with 2 flat 800m speed in a championship-type race can't be counted out, but her chances are probably less than 25%
