Do they have a testing requirement? Guessing these kids are not actually sick, just infected.
Achool does sound like a covid sneeze.
And let me guess, 4 of them had mild cold symptoms and the other 562 were asymptomatic.

A nightmare? Really? University of Alabama has over 33,000 students. 566 cases is a tiny percentage of the student population. If you tested all these students for the flu, common cold, strep throat, etc... how many do you think would turn up positive out of those same 33,000 students? Especially during the regular flu season? And how many of those are false positives (like the 77 NFL player false positives)? And how many have zero symptoms? This population is at extremely low risk to get severely ill or die. The goal was to "flatten the curve" so as not to overwhelm hospitals. That goal wasn't to reduce positives, but to spread them out over a longer period of time so there would be less people in the hospital/ICU with COVID at the same time. That goal has long been achieved. The fact that the goal posts have been moved to having zero cases is beyond ridiculous. This is a virus and it isn't going away anytime soon. This overreaction is out of control.
that historical marker...any normal place would not advertise the fact they used to be training grounds for a traitorous slaver army that fought against the US armed forces.
Let's face it: Very few people go to undergraduate school at 'Bama for the rigorous academic experience. You're going there to party for four (or more) years.
...Which means people are gonna go to bars, not wear masks, not socially distance, and so on.
To quote somebody or other, it is what it is.

It's 1.7% of the total student population, according to your numbers. Now, do you think they have successfully tested all 33,000 students? What percentage of the student body was tested? 10%?
10% of population (3,300 tests): 17% positive

Except the Mayor shut all the bars down today.

It's an extremely infectious disease. If they were to continue as normal telling these 566 to self quarrantine for a couple weeks as well as their close contacts wouldn't cut it. Thousands would be sick in days. I don't know where this all young people are asymptomatic idea is coming from, but it's not true.
You honestly don't think there are a similar percentages with some other viruses and illnesses at the same time on college campuses?

why do you clowns insist on acting like viruses just infect one person and then are done?
It was never about how sick the kids were going to get, it's about them acting as spreaders to their teachers, their parents etc.... it was about throwing gasoline on the fire and adding a million new cases to an ongoing pandemic that's going to kill half a million Americans at this rate
The vast majority of these students will have little to no symptoms . We’re a step closer to herd immunity. This is a good thing.

Where is that idea coming from? The fact that most reports show the majority of children and adults under 25 are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms. When there have been outbreaks among large number of kids/teenagers, such as at summer camps, the large majority had no symptoms. The young and healthy helping with herd immunity is a good thing.
If you are so scared then hide in your basement and avoid the outside world until there are zero cases. Good luck with that!

Article makes zero mention about how many, if any, have any symptoms.
Which likely means nobody is sick.
But reporting nobody is sick doesn't scare anyone.
Flattening the curve has been successful. We spread it out, now we can let live. Everyone will be exposed within a year either way. Why do some of you refuse to see how contageous it is?

Why don't you stop living in the past like you and your liberal buddies like to say on another thread? Grow up, history is history. Did you graduate from high school yet?

It amazes me how many people are so scared because of the deaths, which are under 1% of those who have tested positive, so much lower for the entire population. Most people who have died have ha significant comorbidities, most that are self inflicted - obesity, respiratory issues from smoking, Type II Diabetes, heart disease, etc... Maybe instead of trying to hide and wear masks those people should work on their health - eat better, lose weight, stop smoking. The elderly have also been hit hard, and most of them also had significant health issues similar to the above listed. Of course, promoting people getting healthier to reduce their risk and to do things to help build their immune system don't fit the current narrative of creating as much fear and panic as possible.

This is the dumb-ss thinking that is causing covid 19 to become endemic in the us. I'm not scared, I want my sport to go back to normal, to be able to go into my favorite nature preserve, my work to go back to normal, to go to museums, and all the other things associated with normal life. It's not just about me, if I become a vector. I'm not going to get very sick most likely, it's about all the other people Id infect. This self centered dumb-ss thinking is making me seriously causing the us to be much worse off than most developed countries. There are other people than you, get it?
ummmm.....the hundred million or so people will co-morbidities can't exactly change that fact overnight.
Just because it's mostly killing people with other issues doesn't mean it's less of a threat. The 500,000 -1,000,000 people it's going to kill are still real people.
