We recently had an amazing chat with Joshua and here are the highlights.
https://www.letsrun.com/news/2020/08/cheptegei-world-record-uganda/
Cheptegei also reveals he's wanted to be the GOAT since 2014, talks about why Uganda could finally be emerging as a serious distance power, and discusses if a sub-12:30 or sub-26:00 are possible. "12:30 Could Be Possible, Maybe Also Sub-26:00? I Don't Know."
Joshua Cheptegei talks to LetsRun.com: "I have a surprise. I might run a 10,000 meters very soon,"

26:11...at least.
And i'm expecting the 3:28 for 1500, 7:22 for 3000m and the 58low for the HM also. -

Giving specific training and due to his ability to whitstand fast constant paces, i see Joshua ending his career with a 12:30/26:00/57:10/1:59:30 if everything goes right for him, as he might be the most talented ever with the discipline of Eliud. Also if he will go for a 1500m/3000m, he could eventually run 3:30/7:20(3:47/7:56 mile/2 miles equivalent). -
jesus, lets just rename the sport 'Chep & Field'. He going for ultras too bro?
My advice, calm down before you christen him with a WR at every distance known to man. -
Not being critical here but why do you describe the chat as amazing? Is it because he is the world record holder at 5000m? Or something about his conversation style?

How often you get to have such a lengthy chat with a world record holder and his agent, answering to almost every question you ask, smiling, etc? -

OK I am different than you I guess. There is nothing particularly interesting to me about Cheptegei. He would not rank in the top 100 people I could potentially look forward to conversing with. Or at least not from what I can observe at this juncture. -
Are we really going to discuss sub 12:30 and sub 26:00 with a straight face here? If a guy is destroying records that have been around for 15 years (and yes, a sub 12:30 / 26:00 would be destroying), then I got news for ya ... there's something going on similar to the 90s. I'm sure in 5 years or so we will have the name of it.

It's called talent and hard work.

I could see sub-26, 57:xx, and a legit sub-2:00 happening, but I'm surprised so many people think he can run 12:30. They must think the heat affected him in Monaco, but I don't believe it did, and I don't really see him setting up another perfect 5K attempt like this one.
-
The only wild card to that is the wavelight technology. When you take out variability of pacing, I don't think we can say for sure how much help it would be. This is something that Ventolin / Calculo would no doubt try to quantify. Miss that guy.

Reindeer milk makes u happy and u smile a lot. Ask Lassie

Could happen unless he dies of EPO overdose beforehand.

I was dreaming that he would follow up his 5k WR with a 10k attempt within the next couple of months. Before his 5k attempt, I felt like he had less than a 1% chance of breaking the 5k record. But I felt like his chances in the 10k were significantly better. Smoking Kamworor at World XC is no joke. I feel like he is at least 50/50 to succeed in a serious 10k attempt. Cheptegei doesn't seem to have the Kenyan tendency of talking a big game to hype up his races. When he says he is going to do something, he does it. We are in for a treat.

12:35 is already very impressive, i agree. The track was new, there was no wind, and the pacing was spot on. If he runs another attempt with better weather and on a worse track or with worse pacing, then he might not better his mark.
Human physiology can't be contested, 78F in the air with a dew point of 69F will make it really hard for you. He acclimatised a bit in Uganda and it's only for 12 minutes, but surely it will slow you down. Those conditions might slow an average Joe by 1 minute in his park run, of course it's different for Joshua, but 1" per kilometre is not unimaginable.
If he shows up again on a fast track, with excellent pacing and weather, and a similar or even better shape(if that's even possible) the 12:30 barrier will be broken, i have no doubts, i never doubted Joshua and Addy, they are the perfect mix of talent and knowledge.
Given his resistance, history and past performances, a differential of 5-6"/km as he doubles up in distance is way within his reach. So if we say 12:30 is possible, then surely 25:50-26:00 is possible, 57:00-57:20 and 1:59:10-1:59:30 is achievable in a truly perfect(legal) race.
Also if you can run 12:30 for a 5000m, surely you can challenge 7:20 for 3000m(only a 3.33" for an 80% drop in distance which would allow for a 4-4.8" drop my figures when you increase in distance). Even if he went for the 3000m world record now, he would really threaten it and possibly run 7:20-7:22 without even more specific work. -

I think he'll beat all the current 3K-10K, and Half WR. -

3K will be the toughest one. Apart from that he can demolish all the WRs from 5K and up, even including the marathon. -
I can't see him beating the 3K record, great as he is. That is Jakob's to take one day, perhaps.

Bekele is the true WR holder with 12:37. Apart from the fact that Monaco is the fastest track in the world(bouncy as fukk and possibly short) and illegal laser pacers were used, the truth is that Uganda now have access to the secret sauce that other countries have had for much longer. It is clear that a new hybrid of EPO has also been on the market since the fall of 2018. Don't get me started on the new clown spikes that these guys are also using. Put Bekele 2004 on the identical programme as these guys today and we would see a 12:20 5k
