As a witness, let me just say that the man Aaron Rios is now is not the man he was two years ago. He had some sort of mental break and he’s been angry and mean and manipulative ever since. Was he a good coach? Yes. Is he a good coach? No.

I agree with this, it's so much easier to document things today. One thing I will say is I've never been a fan of arbitrary age decisions where overnight suddenly things that were illegal become legal. Not advocating for soliciting minors, but not every 14 or 15 year old is the same and capable judges should be able to determine the maturity of an individual rather than just saying they're X years old.
Sicko. Pervert.

One of the grossest posts I have ever seen on this site. You should be locked up right with him. I really hope you are never around children.
Certainly not supporting anything this coach did, but not all 15 year olds are alike and coaches and young people in general can never be too careful around young girls that could say they are 19-21 and ruin someone's life.

I’ve know him several years and never cared for him or the way he does things. Do you think his break down or turn could be caused by starting these relationships and the guilt they caused? I have heard he he’s been acting differently lately but maybe because he was about to be caught or couldn’t control himself?
I'm familiar with the accused and my impression is that he was relatively popular at SF. His enthusiasm for the sport was high. Have no idea what made him cross the line so horribly or if he always had these proclivities. Good luck victim(s).
I've known him several years as well and anonymous1010101 is right. There was some sort of mental breakdown that preceded the sexual abuse. The personality shift was 180. He went from being caring, supportive, and able to connect with kids and teens to emotionally abusive, controlling, and manipulative. The sexual abuse was only one the most egregious behavior, there was a lot of other negative behavior that preceded it. He became unrecognizable from the person he was. Who knows what was happening in his life that triggered the change but there most definitely was a shift. If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed someone could change so much so fast.
I am waiting to hear if it's just this most recent girl or if there are more over the past 5 years.

This one isn't false, it's actually far worse than has been reported.
It just got worse. New charges.

Where did the new charges get posted?? Also someone said he confessed is that accurate or not?
This is so upsetting for the victims and families of former athletes. Coaches get way too much control and are often allowed to be "mean, controlling and develop intense relationships" with athletes.... It's not something required to be a good coach or mentor. It's systemic and there simply isn't enough oversight and discussion with athletes from admins. This stuff doesn't have to happen and admins need to be held accountable.

Wrong. Charges go way back.

Again, not condoning what he did but according to the above post it seems that there were some grave mental breakdowns which might give him extenuating circumstances with regard to his eventual conviction. What I mean is he might be declared mentally unstable, schizophrenic, and or a host of other mental conditions which might change the way he is judged.

Not saying this will happen but it seems that it might be a possibility with regard to the radical change in his personality from a very friendly person, which was evident in a couple of YouTube videos, to the changed and hostile person he has turned into of late.

Hey Fallout, Heard Things and Anonymous- You might be able to really help prevent future issues with other coaches. Hind sight being 20/20, what signs did you see that maybe could have been addressed? Were there red flags that parents should pay attention to? I realize there often is no way to stop these disturbed, creepy criminals. Was there anything actionable previously ignored by school officials? Could there have been better rules in place with assistant coaches and oversight (2 deep leadership so one coach is not alone with an athlete) ?
People often miss signs if the person is successful, knowledgeable in a field or just likable.
It doesn't sound like this was a shocking revelation to everyone. So how was it not prevented?

Some of the charges are going to be six years ago or more
St Francis has had several high profile cases of molestation and sex crimes. How can the AD and other Athletics staff still have a job, fire them. Also, Rios was not a good coach. He had little success at Del Campo, then transferred to St Francis, got the previous coach fired, and took in runners from several distance clubs in Sacramento and took credit for making them great. The girls were great before they went to St Francis, he was hired because he was a yes man.
Also, St Francis knew Rios had a club, SAC Elite in order to train his runners during the required off time. They always break the rules with zero consequences because it makes CIFSJS look good. St Francis buys their team, public schools make their teams. I have always said, private schools should only be able to compete against other private schools once championships take place. It is not equitable. St Francis pretends to care, but they are a win at all cost school with several sex cases in the books. No way would I send my child there. Creepy.
St Francis needs to fire their AD and other AD Assistants, and require their school to teach about sexual misconduct and how to recognize it when it happens again.
I agree that what he did is despicable, but I don't know that it's a huge reflection on private schools as a group. There is no evidence of the AD covering anything up or the school doing that either. Also how do they pay for/buy their team? The students literally have to pay to be a part of it. If anything wouldn't it be more of a disincentive.
