Ok...I am going to address what seems to be a common issue on many threads on letsrun...weight.
I have argued about this before and will continue...
First, let me start by saying that, despite being between 174-185 lbs over the last 22 , at 5'8" that I have still recently been able to run sub 20 for 5k and sub 6 for the mile.
Many of you make weight a huge factor here and insult people about it any chance that is possible.
But let me break this down...
If you were between 15-16 minutes in HS
And 14:30-15:00 in college
Or basically 25:30 for 8k, you still needed to shave off about one minute and 20 seconds for the Olympic A standard....
So, basically, you're taking your frustrations out on us because many of you are running in the 15-17 range now and....the range between you and the A standard you did not achieve and our relation to your time, is, as a coefficient, practically equal.
Prior to this disease debacle, my last timed race was 28:52 in a 4 miler. If you use the coefficient established (.86065), then our A standard missers are in at 24:52....which is good but..meh because our A standard people are hitting about 19:30 for the same distance (or slightly quicker)
So many of you who ran D1 or 2 say weight is the catalyst. So if we use the same coefficient, then at 157 pounds, I should run near your times....
However....
At 144 lbs in 1996, I did a 20:04 at 5k
At 181 lbs in 2015, I did a 19:35 5k
At 180 lbs in 2018, I did a 20:57 5k
So what is the factor. You say weight...but do you even know???
