I believe 12:35 is superior to 12:37 because 12:35 is faster than 12:37.

People give the guy his due. U r comparing different times. It is just like comparing Lebron to Jordan. Different times different circumstances. The only thing u can go by is he ran 1.99 seconds faster and the conditions were warmer
The pace light sure seemed to help during the 1500.....

This. Not the sport itself just the professional scene. I stopped buying nike a while ago but they only even care about the masses so it's not like it matters anyways sadly
Unfortunately football players earn 1000x more than the greatest athletes even if they spend their lives warming the bench.
Old argument. Try again.
Bekele’s post plus Cheptegei’s response is some great sportsmanship.
Nice if we could get a "race", with other guys that could plausibly run 12:3X. If I recall correctly, and I'm not sure I do, Bekele smoked a bunch of clowns just like JC did today. I never heard of most of the 2-9 finishers today.
Think how fast he MIGHT have gone.
He checked his watch during the race twice. Is everyone certain he was using the pace light at all? Why would you check you watch if you have the light?
He was paced until 6:00.
He passed the light at 8:30.
Best case scenario, the light helped him for 2:30.

Agree with this^^
He was in front of the light for a significant part of the race.
But the pacers were following the lights before 6:00 and Cheptegei was following the pacers, so therefore Cheptegei was still benefitting from the lights.
You’d be crazy to say that the lights don’t give an advantage in a race, even if you’re running in front of it. If I have 100m to go and the light still isn’t in front of me, you better believe I’m hauling to try to keep the lead on it for a world record. Likewise, if the light pulls ahead with 450m to go, you better believe I’m going to try to dig a little deeper to stay with it.

Think about all the times you heard of a teammate on the inaide the field running along side their teammate for .5 seconds and disqualifying their teammate in the race for "pacing". Now we have this.
I agree. Just knowing you're ahead of the light is a huge mental advantage. You can literally see the world record while racing. Forget the shoes. That's the biggest advantage. Give Bekele a pace light in his next marathon

Hurry you two, get your weak cup of tea and pecan sandies, Matlock is about to come on
What will this do to Bekele’s psych? He won’t be able to simultaneously hold the world record for 5k, 10k, and marathon. So he will just run 2:06 marathons now?
I CALL BULLSHOOT ON THAT!
A.) The Pacers got to follow the light. So if Chep is following the pacers who are following the light, then the transitive property tells me that Chep was following the light for the first 6:00.
B.) Once you have passed the light, you know if you are starting to fade or not if the light doesn't pass you back. So, in your head, without the light, you might think you are starting to fade and press a little bit too soon. But, with the light, even if you are ahead of it, you know that your current pace is still doing good if it doesn't pass you back.
The Light is always there and it is always benefiting the runner shooting for a specific time. Look into the Light, jacobs, you know this to be true.
p.s. I watched that race and it was just so boring. honestly, the elites need to act like they are suffering a bit during World Record races or at least don't finish and then casually bop along smiling like they like are out of a summer time stroll in the gardens. A casual sports fan who watched that without the commentator who have zero clue that they were even watching an actual race.
Pace light = BS
Monaco needs to pony up the big bux for some quality pacers.
Is Banana Bread ok?
He should have chimed in by now.
This just proves it:
Compression Shorts > Split Shorts.

Bekele runs 12:31 without mechanical doping.
Great run by Cheptegei nevertheless.
They aren't even carbon fiber shoes like Vaporfly. Give it a rest.
