This is news as 4 cases from one family with no known contacts and the Prime Minister shuts the country down for 3 days. Dam if only other countries had such a leader.

And guess what New Zealand is an island country in the middle of nowhere with only four million people and it costs you over $5000 if you to leave or come back in required isolation (like a prison). Basically they are shut off to the rest of the world so there's that fun side of it.

The fun side is that the disease is under control in NZ. Being shut off from the rest of the world isn't so bad when you see what the rest of the world is like - especially the US.

Please update us in August 2021 to let us know how they did.
COVID death per capita
GDP...
BTW: 3 or 4 known cases with no known source = 400 cases
The questions is like asking where the virus was 2 years ago.

That's like saying antarctica has covid under control. Color me unimpressed.
How many days did they shut down the country for the flu? Tummy ache? Stubbed toes? Skinned knees?
How long can she cling to her "precious"?
New Zealand had environmental conditions that were not conducive to community spread when the virus first hit (similar to Australia). They were able to contain it by shutting borders because they are an island nation and it is easy to contain when the primary transmission vector is cases from abroad. This is much harder to contain (as southern Australia is learning) when environmental conditions are favorable for community spread. Now that they are in heating season, their counter measures may not be as successful.
Interesting takes on NZ. Here's what jumps out to me about this. NZ has essentially isolated themselves from the rest of the world and still CANNOT eliminate COVID-19 from popping up. It's not going anywhere folks. Maybe its time we employ a new strategy that focuses on those most at risk?
Also, the effectiveness of NZ seems to be heavily dictated by the following:
Early on, they were able to sit on the sidelines and plan while other countries such as Italy, Spain, and the USA were getting hammered - ask anyone from NZ. They will tell you they have been as "LUCKY" as they've been "SMART"
Their level of isolation enables them to better control spread
A single level of gov't control (no statest to contend with)
They don't have the same level of population density

They get to have live sports, eat in restaurants and live their lives. Color me impressed
This would have been possible for us if we had perfect walls around our borders and completely stopped all immigration back around January or February.
And lets face it, if Donald Trump ruled our country the way NZ is ruling theirs, people would riot over him being a dictator that would make the BLM rioters look like kids in a squirt gun fight.

Maybe it's time we realize that those most at risk are taken care of by those less at risk? And that if the virus is widespread among those less at risk, they *will* be infecting the ones most at risk?
The tourism industry which is significant in NZ has been destroyed. The unemployment rate is much higher than being reported. The gov't has been subsidizing people for some time now and will need to extend its support to keep things from getting really bad.
You cannot isolate yourself in today's world when you depend greatly on other countries to support your population. Whether is food, tourism, business, etc. Eventually, this will reshape who you are as a country and you will have to make changes. It's going to get worse before it gets better, especially when all of those other countries are still battling this thing.
So what's the alternative? Keep everything locked down --forever--?
What do you do if there's no vaccine, or only limited treatments?
Dunes Runner told me that the virus is falling out of the sky. Wafted east across the ocean from China. Probably explains all the cases randomly showing up.

In Fauci's mind

So just like America?
Maybe it is time that you realize that the virus not going away. Everyone will get it within the next year. But you want to destroy everyone's lives for a generation just to get a few more months before you catch it anyway? Why don't you think about the younger generation instead of thinking about yourself?

They get to play sports with the same 11 people and eat in the same restaurants surrounded by the same 6 people? We've already been doing that. Unimpressed.
Anyway, haven't countries like Belarus been doing that throughout?
