Exactly, chances of death from COVID go up 40% for those in obese/overweight catagories. All it takes is for one lineman to die and everything will hit the fan. One word: LAWSUIT. People really expect some of these athletes to go out and risk long term health effects when they're getting paid no money while AD's and coaches are getting paid 6 to 7 figures?

No it is liability and the costs of testing and meeting the players' demands. That heart condition stopped the Big 10 in its tracks.
It also feels ironic there's the argument that the kids would be safer playing football under the university's care than at home in poorer/rural areas. Wouldn't they be at school taking classes and not at home event if they weren't paying? Oh, right you assume they're not really student-athletes...
The football players are still presumably now more likely to get COVID and whatever heart conditions come with it as they will be tested less.
Not sure why a student athletes not playing football but still in school can't sue.
Now I'm hearing that a lot of this is an attempt to crush any attempt at unionization by the athletes. The schools are showing that without facilities, tv, etc the players value is zero. The presidents and ADs are just using Covid as a cover story. "Oh we are just toooo concerned about our athletes to put them in danger..." yeah right. This is about dolla bills.

i have to tell you right now i feel sick
i actually feel sick to my stomach i
just
and i have felt that way for the last
month and a half two months
i just haven't felt good about what's
going on
i don't every day i get different
answers uh or different
reasons um i can't put my finger
on this pandemic or covid
um every time you read something it's a
little bit different
and i'm trying to figure out how we can
play
everybody wants to play that's important
to me
it's important to our athletes our
coaches i know they all want to play
and we're trying to figure out ways that
we can play you know i get up
every morning very early i start off the
day with a
with a a conference call with all the
athletic directors in
in our league and league office and
we're trying to figure out ways to play
what we can do uh what are our medical
people
telling us what are medical protocols
how can you practice all the different
things that you have to do
to make it work and
you know after spending all day with
that and and then
you know once our players started
practicing i look out my window i watch
them practice
and i see how much they enjoy it and how
much the coaches are into it
after they've been away from them for a
while um
and i i want them to play even more
you know it finally came to the point
where
you have to go to the medical people you
go to the people that
that have answers that that that are the
professionals in this business
and you keep asking for give us a
solution give us an answer how can we
how can we get back on the field how can
we allow our athletes to compete
and you know when they finally came back
and told us
they didn't feel comfortable with it and
we have to make a decision for the
for the health and safety of our student
athletes and our coaches
and our fans but that was always in the
foreground i mean
you we can't go forward move forward
and not feel comfortable with the safety
of our student athletes so
in the end there were too many questions
that we couldn't answer and the doctors
had questions it did didn't have answers
and still were
were looking for those answers and felt
that it was important for us to
finally make the decision not to play
this fall our mission doesn't change
with our student athletes even though
they won't play games
we've got permission that we can have 20
hours a week with them
up to 20 hours a week they could have
with their coaches
i think it's important that the coaches
spend time with the student athletes
i think the student athletes have to
stay busy they have to be working on
something they have to be
thinking about improving they have to
stay busy
i know it's important for our coaches to
spend time with them mental health
is something that's always a concern of
ours and and and for them not to be
active and be busy um i don't think is
healthy
so consequently uh our coaches will come
up with a plan
where we'll keep our athletes busy and
at the same time try to improve them
my my thing is you know how how do you
take this and
and how do you respond you respond
let's get better uh it's something we
have to deal with let's deal with it
and let's deal with it positively let's
improve as a individual and as a team
i tell our fans first of all thanks
thanks for your support
we've had great feedback from from those
season ticket holders and and suite
holders and premium seat holders
um just understand that
our number one priority and our
priorities are our student athletes
first
we did not feel comfortable uh with
their safety

The war on science and facts continues. Universities which should be the defenders of Science show themselves as Liberal pawns.
So far 225 Americans aged 15-24 have died of COVID. There is an extremly high rate of severe underlying condition and co-morbidities in this group calling into question whether they died of or with COVID. 45 Americans under 15 have died of COVID. There is no meaningful statistical risk to kids be in elementary through college due to COVID. If they get fine, they'll feel better in a couple of days. More people 15-24 have died of Pneumonia this year than COVID and we're not shutting down schools for that.
I watched my Republican party commit crimes against truth starting about a decade ago because they were so dissatisfied with Obama. It caused obscene alt-right swing that left us with Trump as the party leader. Dems, learn from our mistake, and kill this war on truth all left swing before you are in an equally bad place.
Primo Numero Uno. I agree with your statement. Do you have a link to those stats about the mortality numbers? Thanks
This is honestly delicious to me. The fact that football literally means nothing outside of entertainment and money making. People orient their lives around these pointless ritualistic events, and they wonder why they feel hollow and have a midlife crisis. It's like the US was zoning out watching TV for 50 years, and someone came along and unplugged it. Now it is angry because it realizes how uncomfortable it is when the TV won't turn on. The country doesn't like how it feels when it isn't plugged into a morphine drip, and rather than take stock of where we went wrong, we just want to get plugged back in again.
As someone who has grown increasingly disgusted with college sports as entertainment for the masses, and disgusted with football as entertainment in general, I'm here for this. The grief over cancelling this season is just the growing pains of a society that is being asked to adapt to a new world, but just wants its brain binky back.
I know kids' dreams are being ruined. Careers are being destroyed. But this is what it looks like when the rug is pulled out from under you, and the rug never really mattered beyond making a buck. And it is happening everywhere.
Of Course, here are the real number. Even CDC isn't corrupt enough to include the Cuomo time travel specials.

Idk if it's already been said but do people think they're kicking the can down the road to squash any talks to unionize? The B10 & P12 players were organizing, making safety demands, and finally starting to recognize their worth. I think it's strategic to let that simmer down & then keep raking in the $$$ once there's a vaccine. I hope players keep pressing now & launch real organizing campaigns if there is no season & they suddenly have some free time to fill. I would love to see the looks on the faces of college presidents and administrators who might have to take pay cuts to give into worker (player) demands.
Says someone on a board for amateur runners?
I am sort of with you here. It should have never reached this point where soooo much depends on one thing (football) because when that one thing isn't around. Yikes.
