True, but the golden question is, will he take advantage of his shape and try for the 10,000m WR in a few months, or will he wait for another year? Given how condensed the next few years look like, i would think is the former option.
They just want to wait and see what happens in Monaco before planning for a further attempt or not.
Does he get much of a choice? The only other international athletics event I'm aware of that's going ahead this year is the London Marathon. In all likelihood, besides time trials at local tracks, which almost certainly won't be world record attempts, this is likely it for the season.
I do wish this WR attempt was a legitimate race between him and Barega and / or Kejelcha or Ahmed instead of just a glorified time trial. I think it's pretty safe to say no one else in the field is going to be aiming for a 3k split of 7:35.
