I hear that proper apostrophe use is an important part of their admissions process, so you probably don't need to waste your time worrying about any of these questions.
Anyone who gets accepted to the school can run on the team (within reason). The coach probably would only turn someone away if he is an a hole and negative to the team atmosphere. I am not entirely sure but if you want to get an application boost I would expect you would have to be around 9:45 at the slowest.
Main problem is admission. 75% of the admits are rich boy legacies who are as dumb as rocks. the other 25% need stellar grades to get in.
Legacies are more like 20-25%. I wouldn't call them dumb as rocks but they lead the party and social scene and are wealthy and don't put that much effort into school. A lot of them are athletes. Overall, for admissions, you're talking about SAT scores similar to Yale, a bit less, and very high grades. Some people there may well lack knowledge of how to use the apostrophe properly on message board posts. They had a 9:40 high schooler go on to win D3 nationals in cross country a while back. Our better recruits in my day included a 9:20 guy from a top program, a 1:55 800m runner, and a 1:58 guy. If you can run 9:20, you probably can get in with under 1300 on the SAT.
Dude, I'm sorry. Thought it was like St. John's or St. Mary's.

don't apologize
Williams is consistently the number 1 or 2 liberal arts college in the US every year. Maybe being rich helps but it is extremely hard to get into. We visited Williams when my daughter was looking at colleges but she was not even wait listed despite a 36 on the ACT and 3.9 GPA. Like many highly selective liberal arts schools they field the full complement of NCAA teams so being an athlete good enough to potentially compete would help in your admissions. Don't for one second think that a school like Williams is a "safety" school when it comes to your application or you will waste the $65 fee and may as well buy lottery tickets. At the time we looked they had a pretty good cross country team in whatever NCAA division compete in. Williams is one of those colleges where in much of the country it won't have broad name recognition or be as well known as a Notre Dame, Duke, or a Georgetown but it is well known by Private Equity and top Consulting Firm hiring managers.
