I feel these 4 give us the best cross-section of the main American music styles. Some may have sold more, some may have been more talented but of all our mega-stars I think these 4 provide the best balance of talent, fame, and influence.
I almost feel like pop music should be its own mountain. It feels like a separate thing.

Usually American is an adjective used for the United States, and given the lack of suggested artists from Brazil, Mexico, Canada and other parts of the "Americas", it seems that is what other posters assumed as well. However, if the original post was intended to be that broad, fine by me. I love Marley's music.
