I hope he does. I really like Joe Klecker. I believe Ritz ran 27:38 in college, though, and then never ran faster than 27:22 (which is still great). 35 seconds is a lot of seconds. Solinsky was ungodly talented. I don't see Klecker winning any US Titles or Oly Trials, but given his work ethic and level headedness I expect him to be in the mix for a spot on the team for probably the next 8 years or so.
Exactly, Klecker has more to prove, but at 24 that's not a mark against him. He just hasn't been the all-time talent that Solinsky was.
At this point, Klecker reminds me of Bobby Curtis = 3:40/13:18/27:24 (/1:01/2:11)
And if anyone is debating the merits of BK's 12:58 25 years ago vs Woody running a perfect-conditions time trail with Lopez and Centro, then you need to reevaluate your understanding of the changes, progression and inherent improvements in American running since the 90s. I don't think anyone would equate Woody's 12:59 as being anywhere equal to BK's runs and clearly Bob's overall career, list of PRs and accomplishments speak for themselves at level beyond a single mark.
Wow, the male on male gaze in this thread is disgusting !

Yes, apparently that is what toxic masculinity has led us to. All men should be castrated upon reproduction.

Agreed. I don't think he is anywhere near as talented as Solinsky.
I do think he has a shot at breaking 13 someday soon. Different times than when Solinsky ran. Not sure Klecker has it in him to run sub-27 though.
Joe has now run 27:35. He just turned 24. He is doing OK.
He also ran a 3:58 mile at 5000 ft this summer, which is incredible speed for a guy that runs the mileage he runs.

Joe is now knocking on the door of 13 flat with his 13:06 tonight.
I’d say he’s more built like Tegenkamp than Solinsky tbh

Until recently, there hadn't been many Americans running sub-13. It seems much more commonplace now. Not sure if its the shoes or the training or what, but I don't think I am as impressed with Woody Kincaid's 12:58 as I was with Bob Kennedy's 12:58 or Ritz's 12:56. Just seems the races are a bit quicker these days.
Yes I do know what you mean. I would say:
I knew Bob Kennedy.
Woody, you’re no Bob Kennedy.
Woody breaking 13 still seems like one of the oddest results in the last couple years/
Oh yeah? Well, you're no George Kennedy either!
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/06/George_Kennedy_1975.JPGConsidering he just ran 13:06, I don't think he's too far off

Instead of Solinsky or Teg, he may be the new Ritz. I see it and it's exciting for sure!
Really, no Ben Trues yet? He's definitely a Ben True.
