When focusing on races ranging from 5km to Half Marathon is getting 2 quality workouts and 1 long run per week better than focusing on overall weekly volume?
For info , i'm a 29 year old male who's just completed 14 weeks averaging 55 miles per week and ran 17:30 in a 5km time trial doing mostly easy mileage with 1 long run and 1 session per week.
So in order to progress this is it better to add a second session to the week or add more overall volume. For example, a tuesday tempo/friday intervals/sunday long run keeping everything else equal. Or don't change the weekly structure but add a few miles here and there to other runs to take me from 55 miles per week to closer to 65-70 miles? Thanks in advance :)
