Heard a rumor today that the Hanson bros. are seriously talking about shutting down the program at years end. I understand that it is not a funding situation but they are just ready to move on. I wonder if Zap will follow as Pete and Zika have also been at it for almost as long.

Well I heard a rumor all over the news the last couple months that all large marathons are cancelled for the foreseeable future. What is the point of running a marathon training group?
I'm not sure about them shutting down completely at years end. But considering that they're still looking for new recruits I would guess that it will survive past the years end in some form. Last week jaret carpenter visited the group
They're combining forces with the Colorado Distance Project so they can re-sign Chuck Lawrence.
Why not hand it off to one of the multiple other capable coaches in Michigan?

They take mid-level talent with upside at longer distances, give them volume/aerobic based training they need to see if it pans out. I think they are pretty good at what they do.

With talent like Panning/Kendell/Hassan they should have 2/3 guys in the Olympics in 4 years. Charlie Lawrence is a terrible runner, Brooks is better without him

I’m told that this was not a Brooks decision. Brooks wanted to continue. K & K have had enuf.

None of those are good when other groups are winning olympic and world champs medals. Hell even USA medals
The point is simple. Hansons brought back the group training concept in the US. You hate to see the original close up shop. I remember Meb thanking Hansons for the group training concept and felt that he and Deena benefitted from it in Athens. Now every shoe company has a “group” but no one did in the late 90s when Hansons started.
