I have to boys 7 and 10 years old. They are running around all day and seem to like it but I am not sure if they are ready for structured training yet. Would be great fun if I could get them to share my passion about running. Any advice how to get kids into serious training? So hard to beat video games and action sports these days.
Have them run a mile when they got hone from school? A kid on my team had to do this from 8-12 years old. Really really good in junior high. Got worse in high school but I think it's because he was just weird.
Tell them to go to school running.
It's not the training:
Yup. They aren't good because of their training. It's all talent and they train just for fun.
You know, nothing beats a double threshold day in terms of fun. Just imagine it 2x/week...
I think kids should just play normal sports until they’re about 12, then it’s good to introduce them to the sport by having them do their school track team for a season, or training to complete a 5k, things like that. I don’t think serious training needs to happen until 14. I’m sure team sports but not be feasible at this time so in the meantime what about swimming and biking?
